Oh gosh...in the midst of Ianto's zeal to fix Jack, I saw an uncomfortable echo of Lisa. It's all there - the rationalizing, the single-minded determination to make everything better and get back to how things were. Every time Jack opens his mouth, it's heartbreaking - either because he's saying something horrifying, or because he's saying something Ianto would ordinarily be dying to hear but now is just another twist of the knife. Also, Eleth is great.
Oh God, as I said, you are the boss of angst, this angst is masterful. I found Jack's condition heartbreaking. It feels very much like someone with dementia, very sad. If you ever listen to the Archers, this reminds me of the storyline on that, which makes me cry more often than not.
Bless Ianto, but it is very in character, he is such a stoic wee thing.
Yay!!! You are writing Jack/Ianto again! I'm sooooo happy, you just don't know! Please excuse the abuse of exclamation points.
I don't remember if I told you this or not, but your story, Attrition, was my first Torchwood story. I read it four months ago at Thanksgiving.
At the time, I didn't know anything about Torchwood or Dr. Who and didn't particularly want to know. I was all about Spike/Xander. So one day, because there's not a lot of really good S/X being written lately, I decided to once again reread one of yours. After getting to your website, the J/I category caught my eye. Desperate for new fiction, I decided to read Attrition, even without knowing anything about TW, just because you wrote it and I knew it would be good
( ... )
Wow, it's huge relief that you actually liked Torchwood after being lured in like that :o)
I'm very touched that you trusted me enough as a writer to read what was essentially original fiction for you at that time, and I'm thrilled that you enjoyed it so much.
The only downside is that I'm in this at the beginning of the story, instead of at the end...
In that case, I forbid you to read any more of this new thing until it's finished. Oh, yes. That's absolutely going to work, I can feel it in my bones! lol.
I've been looking at all my notes for potential S/X stories and may drift back in that direction after I've finished editing Hourglass to death, so if I go I'm dragging you with me, be warned!
Oh, Lord, I truly must be a fangirl, because your response to my comment just thrilled me to bits! You've always been like this high priestess of wonderful fanfic to me.
Of course I will obey your orders not to read anymore of "Hourglass" before it is complete. ::runs off to ready the next chapter:: :D
Thanks again for replying. I hope to talk to you again soon.

I'm so happy you felt that. To me Ianto's bloody-mindedness is fundamental to the character and I tried hard to capture that.
Also, Eleth is great
That's a relief - you never know with OCs!

I very rarely listen to the radio but I'm not sure I could have listened to that storyline anyway. Which makes me a rotten hypocrite, I know.
I hope the angst isn't too much - please feel free to shout and kick if we get to that point.
