1sentence challenge--Stefan/Mordecai

Jun 24, 2006 11:22

Fandom: Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Pairing: Stefan x Mordecai
Theme set: alpha
Rating: R for some really bloody bits

Hey, look, I actually wrote something! Hopefully this will end my stupid writer's bloc/ADD phase...thing. These are meant to be in some sort of vague chronological order, with related themes grouped together, of course.

#35 - Bonds
Neither one had thought, in that first meeting under the blazing desert sun, that their lives would be so changed, or their hearts so inseparable.

#31 - Home
The desert was no kind of home, though some of the newly-arrived thought it to be a sanctuary, and Stefan had made it his duty to search for a more hospitable place to settle the colony; Gallia seemed a feasible choice, and the beast warriors were oh-so-conveniently traveling with the Crimean army, within reach.

#46 - Sun
Everything seemed brighter in the desert, with the sunlight reflecting off pale sand and rock, lending a strange kind of radiance to the few straggly plants growing around a mere puddle of an oasis and the green-haired swordsman who had appeared as if from nowhere.

#22 - Jealousy
Soren had, yet again, refused what was best for him in favor of following his beorc commander, but a long conversation with the tiger from Gallia helped to dispel the unpleasant feeling in the pit of his stomach.

#47 - Moon
The light cast by the tiny sliver of crescent moon would have left any true beorc all but blind, but for the tiger who slipped out to hunt of an evening and the man who watched him in secret, it was more than sufficient.

#20 - Freedom
Stefan envied Mordecai’s freedom, the way he could walk openly among the other soldiers and mercenaries, unhindered by the weight of some curse of breeding he had no control over.

#36 - Market
The irony of the situation did not escape him; in Daein, he could walk freely through the old street market where Mordecai could not, but if the people around him knew him for what he truly was, they would hate him more than any laguz.

#37 - Technology
Sometimes it baffled him how the beorc could survive, relying on unwieldy pieces of metal for protection, but watching the desert swordsman cut through enemy ranks like wind through leaves stilled any doubts.

#12 - Sensual
If he thought there was something beautiful about the fluid motion of the Gallian warrior in battle, he took great pains not to show it-of course, the reverse was true, as well.

#06 - Rain
Stefan stood in the rain, face upturned, arms spread, reveling in the kind of refreshing storm that rarely graced the desert, not caring that the Gallian, used to frequent, sudden downpours, was staring at him as if he were insane.

#19 - Wind
He sat in silence, the old dictionary Lethe had given him open in his lap to a page in the B’s, and watched the wind in the fields.

#38 - Gift
“The things you laguz think of as gifts; longevity, sharper senses, greater strength; are nothing but a curse to us, the Branded.”

#04 - Pain
He was only dimly aware of anything beyond the agony of the gash in his side, and did not so much as react to the lance poised to deliver the killing blow or the sudden, horrible scream of the of the foot soldier when Mordecai tore his throat out.

#03 - Soft
Stefan clung to his rescuer’s back, concentrating on the soft, thick fur between his fingers to keep his mind off the blood dripping down his leg and the terrible pain of every jouncing stride.

#18 - Speed
With Stefan’s ragged breathing in his ears, Mordecai put on another burst of speed, praying that the goddess, who had thus far been most cruel to the swordsman, would let him live.

#27 - Blood
Blood was everywhere; staining Stefan’s clothes, matted in Mordecai’s fur, dripping to the ground--Rhys had to check twice to be certain that the swordsman was truly the only one injured.

#25 - Devotion
He sat at his self-imposed vigil all night in the healer’s tent, huge form cramped into a tiny folding chair, and did not complain; cats were nocturnal creatures, after all.

#21 - Life
His vigilance was rewarded when the first creatures of morning stirred to life, and Stefan stirred along with them.

#23 - Hands
Mordecai took the swordsman’s slender hands in his, running blunt fingertips over the sword calluses covering the palms, and smiled when they were not withdrawn.

#15 - Touch
Still woozy from the drugs Rhys had given him to help him sleep, Stefan was only aware that the Gallian was holding his hand, and he didn’t mind the contact.

#16 - Weakness
Though his wound was healed, Rhys had warned him that he would not be able to simply leap back into battle; the wave of nausea that left him clinging to Mordecai for support the first time he tried to stand convinced him like no lecture could.

#05 - Potatoes
Neither man nor tiger cared for the dull, tasteless lumps of mashed tuber that Mist had made, but they took care not to show it.

#01 - Comfort
In a war that grew stranger and more perilous by the day, it was good to know that there was a well of strength and support he could rely on, the only price being to provide the same back.

#11 - Name
Once, Mordecai asked why his parents named him Stefan, but the half-breed merely laughed bitterly and replied that they had died before he was old enough to care about things like where a name came from.

#13 - Death
He sometimes wondered, watching Mordecai wash the blood from his hands, what it was like for the laguz to be so much closer to the death they dealt; shredding lives, not with an unfeeling length of steel, but with a part of their own selves.

#28 - Sickness
“Some think that one who loves those who are not like him are diseased, but I do no think this is true,” he growled, speaking more clearly than usual, “I think that love is love, even if I am a laguz, and you are of the parentless.”

#24 - Taste
The flavor of the very excellent stew Oscar had made faded to nothing, and he could only stare in astonishment as his brain processed the implications of Mordecai’s declaration.

#26 - Forever
He refused to promise eternity because he refused to make a promise he couldn’t keep.

#14 - Sex
It was forbidden-more than his own existence, it was forbidden-but that didn’t stop the nervous, growling overture or his acceptance.

#29 - Melody
It was no galdr, but the deep rumble of Mordecai purring in his sleep gave him a sense of peace.

#10 - Ears
He blinked awake to find Mordecai’s ear flicking against his cheek, soft as down and slightly ticklish

#42 - Clouds
His eyes in the half-light of dawn were some sort of indeterminate grey, like roiling storm clouds in the evening.

#43 - Sky
Stefan had always been partial to sunrises, and this morning’s-pale orange wisps of cloud against blue sky, and he curled against Mordecai’s chest-was no different.

#44 - Heaven
If love was like a breath of heaven, the way the girls always said it was, heaven was a lot hairier than expected.

#02 - Kiss
It was an odd sensation, the dry, coarse feline tongue on his cheek, and it took him a moment to realize that it was the same kind of kiss so many other couples shared to reassure each other.

#30 - Star
Desert nights were clear, and he had long ago learned all the constellations; if his map of the heavens did not match up with what was taught in Gallia, it only gave them more of an excuse to lie in the grass and talk.

#08 - Happiness
For the Branded, happiness was nearly impossible to obtain, so Stefan clung to every brief moment of bliss that he could.

#17 - Tears
He couldn’t think of a single incident when the tiger had actually broken down and cried before, but here was the craggy face, wet with tears, and he was suddenly glad he had decided not to enter the tower basement.

#07 - Chocolate
Their relationship, like life, was an odd mix of the bitter and the sweet, but that made it all the more addicting.

#32 - Confusion
Stefan sighed at the baffled look on the tiger’s face and tried to think of another word Mordecai might understand.

#33 - Fear
“I wonder, Mordecai, would you have feared me, if you had learned I was Branded before actually meeting me?”

#34 - Lightning/Thunder
“They’re so amazing when they fight together,” Mist confided to her brother once, “so fast and strong, they’re like, I don’t know, a thunderstorm, a force of nature!” that both were within earshot she did not learn until later, much to her embarrassment and theirs.

#39 - Smile
Far from what most would call beautiful, his face was nevertheless endearing when he smiled.

#40 - Innocence
It was hard to equate the ferocious beast who spilled so much enemy blood with the gentle man who dragged him out of bed in the middle of the night to show him the family of deer picking their way across camp, happy and innocent as a child.

#45 - Hell
If all the teachings of Ashera’s priests were to be believed, he was damned for merely existing, an assertion that Mordecai heartily disagreed with.

#49 - Hair
Mordecai kept his cropped short, but Stefan refused to tame his own shaggy locks, and really, he didn’t mind.

#50 - Supernova
Stefan tossed another half-burnt piece of wood out of the way, ignoring the fact that it was still smoldering, ignoring the burning in his hands and his lungs, thinking only of the beast tribe’s susceptibility to fire magic, and how he wished he had been quicker in killing that enemy mage.

#41 - Completion
The war was over, Ashnard was dead, Crimea was free, but some part of him wished that the adventure wasn’t over yet.

#48 - Waves
One had rising and falling peaks of blue-green sea, while the other had dunes rolling away and away to the horizon, but at least the two vistas had something in common.

#09 - Telephone
After the war, Stefan found himself wishing for a way to reach across the vast stretches of desert and mountain and jungle, just to hear the great tiger’s growling speech again.
