Desolation of Smaug

Just a quick post before I'm off to work. Desolation of Smaug was beyond awesome. There were a few minor irritations, but I was impressed, on the whole.  I think that the dragon, Smaug, was the best part, with Benedict giving a stellar performance as the voice. Another thing that interested me was Legolas' badassery. If he had just pulled a few of ( Read more... )

I loved all the little references to LOTR, ESPECIALLY when Legolas looked at Gimli's picture. That scene was awesome :D

I know right. All I could think of was that Gimli was going to be Leggy's plus one to Valinor. Can you imagine Big Daddy Thrandy's face now? Speaking of Thranduil, I just couldn't stop giggling during his scenes. As over the top as he was, I almost thought that he was going to snap his fingers over his head and say "Oh no, you didn't" to Thorin. Was he that way in the book or that was for affect?

I don't even remember Thranduil having any dialogue in The Hobbit, and I just re read it in August. There was a lot added so that they could make it into 3 movies (although some of it did come from Tolkien's materials that were not included in the published story). He was kind of OTT, lol, and Legolas was featured much more than I expected him to be.

I'm very happy to hear that Desolation of Smaug was beyond awesome for the most part! I'm really looking forward to seeing it -- and not just because of Benedict Cumberbatch's performance. *g*

I think it's really interesting to see the development Legolas had in the years between Bilbo's amd Frodo's quest because he certainly seems like a much younger version of himself who hasn't found to his own yet. A bit like a teenager who hasn't revolted against his Dad yet. Plus you see how much more reckless he is in general.
