A friend of mine has been very badly screwed over by his Uni (actual text follows under a cut) - the course he applied for no longer exists, and the letter telling him so didn't get to him, such that he already has things like a loan, and housing sorted out. He needs to re-apply for a Research position, in the next 11 days ( Read more... )

I think telling the appropriate department that they need to support him in his efforts to make this proposal or relevant authorities will be informed of their incompletance. I also suspect a visit to his local Citizen's Advice Bureau would be helpful so he can find out exactly who he can complain to and what rights he has. Leaving him hung out to dry like this is sheer incompetence. I suspect he has a far stronger case than Aber is willing to admit and he can probably escalate this within the university.

A (possibly annonymous) letter to someone like THES or Private Eye might also be in order.

I'm with Dave on this one - surely his university have to do more than say 'sry' after they've screwed him over like this.
