Letter in Irish Times today:

Madam, - I recently discovered that it is against Dublin Bus regulations to sing on the bus. This seems authoritarian and petty. Buses are traditional venues for singing, and personally, I believe my morning commute would be enriched by hearing a fellow passenger lifting his or her voice to express the joys of life. I have a vision of commuters singing on the tube in London.

O.o

What a wonderful world it would be.

Ha, I can't see that happening somehow.

If you really want to hear mass-singalongs on transport, get on any Ryanair flight between Liverpool and Dublin.

"Imagine how much social solidarity (in these difficult times) could be created by sing-alongs between strangers in transit."

I am really trying to, but it's almost unimaginable.

There is a young man who walks the same way to work as me and he sings along to his mp3 player at the top of his lungs in the morning. I have changed my route.

I imagine much of the solidarity would come from the rest of the bus getting fed up and attacking the singers.

Hahaha, oh dear.

Our upstairs neighbour likes to belt out ballads, usually around 10pm. Last night it was that Bruno Mars one, while I was trying to watch Game of Thrones.
