Dude.... that thing means nothing. Usually means you've got too high a level of some emissions or something.... which is uncomfy if you're into the environment but doesn't matter if you're poor and just need a car that runs. Wait, aren't you guys required to have your cars inspected for emissions in CA? I'd wait until it's close to that and then have it checked out.

I had a car with that light on once... I had it checked out, and all they found was the computer telling them something was "wrong" with the camshaft, and they looked into it and said "your car is fine, we don't know why that light is on, but nothing is wrong with your camshaft". This all actually didn't cost me anything, but I knew the right place to go around here. And then I drove it for a year with that light on, and then it got reposessed, and somebody bought it at auction - with that light on.

Moral of the story, you can ignore it until you actually feel something wrong with your car. That light is for rich people.

Transmission busted.

SO glad I took it in to check. o_O

My car has been a little sluggish from time to time, but I chalked that up to needing an oil change, and possibly transmission fluid change.

We had the same thing happen to us and it turned out to be almost nothing - we were told the gas cap might have been put on too loose at some point in the past. I know that does not mean it's the same problem for you, but still I think those lights are oversensitive and only help with cars underwarranty where the dealer will look at every last little thing.

just make sure it has enough liquids, particulary oil, transmission fluid and coolent.

I wish it was almost nothing. That would be cheaper than the $2800 to have a transmission rebuilt.
