My day @ work.

Today, I am getting the Mini University Supervisor lab up and running and its looking quite enjoyable.

All computers must be:
1. able to sign into our sub-network
2. able to print off of two separate networked printers
3. secure and up to date
4. able to connect to and update the financial database

This is on top of the regular things like RUNNING and having regular programs like the office suite.

Just this morning:
1. monitor turns off when the computer boots up
2. user set up as core administrator (the do everything sign in thats hidden underneath your regular sign ins)
3. power button is broken on one of the desktops
4. virus scan... won't scan on another system
5. the one with the user as core admin.. yeah, the last user setup a research program improperly that takes up 50% of the processor power at all times
6. said research program is uninstallable
7. all computers are on an archaic sub-network that should no longer exist

So far I've fixed 1, 2, 5, and 6. Looks like I'll have to reinstall the AV on 4 but I'm using an online tool to check if its a virus causing the issue. Judging by the fact I could access the online tool makes me think its just the AV is corrupted and there isn't a virus. The power button.. yeah, i'll likely have to replace the case.. which I can't really do due to purchase order numbers and SN being on the cases. I guess I'll have to jury rig the button to work properly again. It'll work till a user breaks the fix.

After I finish up my list, I then have to get to work on properly updating the Children's Programs database code. It is still a jumble and some kids apparantly went missing. The coordinator still has not gotten me the names of the kids who weren't on the list which makes tracking down the bug much harder. That if the bug even exists. It wouldn't be the first time the PEBKC(Problem Exists Between Keyboard and Chair aka User Error) reared its head.

Just figured I'd post what a day can be like in this job.
