Anyone who reads this entry, PLEASE offer your thoughts on this friggin' poem. I am supposed to explicate it for my AP Lit exam (and present it) and I can't find CRAP on it, nor make much sense of it. I mean I can grasp at what it means... but... yeah. Its not good. Help plzkthx ( Read more... )

Does this poem have a title or author? That might help finding things connected to it...as far as research goes.

The first line might reference 1001 Nights, that really old book of Middle Eastern stories with Aladdin and all that other crap in it.

It sounds like the person they are speaking of is dead.

What confuses me is the final three lines. Is the dead person, ghost, whatever, and incubus/succubus? O_o The speaker talks about the spirit visiting and "flying through my soul." And the mansion they talk about would seem to be a metaphor for the physical body. Are they not interested in actual romance...? Because it says be not like the romantic ones who in love set me on fire...that "love" is too intense now. They don't want to feel any pain in there heart, they don't want this person to stay.

I'm not sure, that's just what it kind of sounds like at a glance. I'm not so sure about the sexual part I mentioned, it's a very strange poem and that could mean something different I guess.

From the way it sounds, it sounds like maybe two people are friends...think of it as Willow and Xander. Xander never once saw Willow as more, until later on, and all of a sudden, she was there in front of him. It seems like it's like that. ^_^ I dunno if this helps at all, but that's the way it sounds to me.
