The thing about percentages of recorded monogamous cultures... I have a feeling it's wrong. Most of the information that would have gone into making that statistic probably comes from 19th and early 20th century Eurocentric anthropology, which unconsciously sought to describe as barbarous any non-white non-European culture. (Non-monogamy was considered barbaric, of course.) The other issue with the statistic is that, by context, it implies that the opposite of monogamy is polyamory, and strictly speaking in cultures that are non-monogamous the tradition is polygamy, not polyamory, and hence is multiple female partners per male. (And no, in all of recorded history, there has never been a matriarchal society.)
