SF Question of the Week

Apr 16, 2009 11:33

So, I've decided to post a question for discussion here, since a lot of my friends are SF fans. I'm thinking of posting a new one once a week, just for the heck of it. The idea is to invoke discussion, so feel free to comment on other commenters or jump right even even if I don't know you or vice versa ( Read more... )

Imagine the impact it would have on the SF&F movie/TV industry! Then they'd have people clamouring for other skin-colours. "Maybe we could have people's skin produce lycopene or beta carotene or..."

But it would make In Nomine Halloween costumes much simpler.

Well, green IS my favorite color... beldar April 16 2009, 16:51:32 UTC
I've long said that there are times I wish I could just absorb nutrients from the atmosphere -- don't feel like cooking, or going out -- and keep going, or finish watching what's on TV and go to bed. In that sense, I'd go green in a heartbeat.

Might also help me lose weight, or at least lose fat. How much weight would be gained by cellulose buildup?

Then again, there's the question of discrimination against greens, or for that matter against "pinks"

And what if it alters genetics and becomes inherited? That brings on a whole new round of social problems for coming generations.

If the treatment is temporary, one would still wonder about lasting effects. The first generation to use it would be the true test, no matter how much testing on small batches of people had been done before.

Well, with my having to avoid the sun, I think I'd starve to death! :O

The answer to everything would be "yes". I actually like the idea of being green. Damn my pasty white skin. If I were green then I could look like the Hulk, Martian Manhunter, or an Orion. Oh, I also like the idea of it being environmentally efficient.

Permanent but easily reversible would be the preference for me.

P.S. I guess you wouldn't need to eat too many vegetables because you would already be one. Ha!!

Though it is a different color and this is a hypothetical situation, you might want to take a look at the case of the man with blue skin.
