Oh yeah, also...
These two are from dress rehearsal back in November, which is why one is a stupid-looking candid shot of me in front of the keyboard and the other is me posing like a dirty French postcard (which is what everyone said I looked like). The next three are even older and have been posted before.
You can probably spot the major problems right off, most of which center around the bust gores. They were the only pieces I found hard to set easily (not even the hip gussets were that evil. It was the pointed end of the triangles that really threw me.) and I finally figured out the reason they turned out too big. My busk hadn't come in yet when I made my muslin, so I stitched a wooden 12-inch ruler there. Of course the normal steel busk wasn't as stiff as a piece of wood, so it wants to curve out at the top and then of course the "cups" that I purposely made not too small become too big and there's that ugly ridge. The drawstring helps a little, but it's hard to pull it to just the right tautness and then actually tie it off while keeping it there. I can't decide if my next one needs to have smaller gores or a stiffer busk, or maybe even both. My costume director is fussing at me that she wants me to spill out more and show more cleavage, so although I really liked the way this style turned out I might have to use the other bust-gore-less one (the Dore?). Which I was planning to use for my 1880's corset instead... of course, I could just keep making corsets until I get two or three I'm satisfied with... :) Damn, this could get expensive.
Stay tuned for pics of my and Jess's finished gowns -- just have to retrieve them off the other computer. :)
