Deadlands: Reloaded
A brief explanation of Deadlands: Reloaded, primarily motivated 'cause of the Star Trek challenge I participation in found here. Unfortunately, wikipedia tells a bit too much information (unless you like knowing all the nitty gritty details).
From Pinnacle's website: The "weird west". Mysterious beings called the Reckoners have given life to monsters and magic, causing history to divert from July 4th, 1863 forward. The South has won its independence, California has shattered into a labyrinth of flooded sea-canyons, and a mysterious super-fuel called "ghost rock" has spawned as much war and strife as it has "steampunk" devices.
Basically, world fairly normal until 1863 and then magic for all intents and purposes re-released into the world. Most people don't believe it or ignore it. In the Wild West of America, they aren't so fortunate as the Reckoners have their eyes set on world domination (of a kind) starting there. On the East Coast, not so much believed even if they themselves can be in the thick of it.
McCoy was born in 1850 and was 11 when the war broke out in 1861. Eleven years later, the Civil War is still going with no foreseeable end.
