That is a short story by...ummm Charlotte Perkins Gilman, I believe. You should read it. It is one of the earliest examples of feminist prose, and was outlawed and burned all over the place

Mano and I were just talking about how the community is being more segregated and how something needs to be done about that. From our perspective, it seems as if the POC's are primarily hanging out with other POC's etc. Both of us are worried about this and trying to figure out ways that we can bridge the gap.
yes, but I would only be willing to speak from my own perspective, if that is cool. I took my comment out, just on the off chance that it offended someone...

I think I maybe used the wrong word choice. Segregation implies more of a forced discrimination, you know?
I just meant...everyone seems to have kind of split into smaller groups. This is not a bad thing, sometimes I just miss the feeling of belonging to this huge, extended and interconnected family.

strange, we have been discussing this lately. in re: to folks hurt not asked to join poc groups because of appearance, we should talk more. i would rather know what you mean specifically before getting into some unnecessary explanations. the two poc groups i frequent for just hanging out, and planning the rpoc conference, were, i assumed open to anyone wanting to do the work or hang, and meetings were openly announced. again, i may be making unnecessary explanations. if anyone wants to talk to me about this, i would love to. i don't like the idea that people are hurt, esp based on believing it is discrimination of level of poc appearance

yep, definitely. I didnt mean to use LJ as a way to process, and I think that comment came out sounding a lot meaner than it meant to be. I will say that I specifically have felt excluded from the POC stuff. More than likely it is because the folks doing one group are also doing others. It is also hard because..ummm..I am JUST an ally. I feel like a shitty baby if I say something like "Why cant I join"? Because, the reality of it is, I am white as white can be. It is a struggle I facilitate in my head often. I honestly didnt mean to give (a passive aggressive) voice to it, it just kind of popped out of my head whilst I was writing. I will gladly have this conversation with anyone that would like to, you know, talk in real life. Again, sorry about the verbal vomit on LJ. Also, y'all are really rad friends.
