Penchees are the DEVIL!! And what's really disgusting is that for every ballet school I applied for when I was 11, ALL of the applications requested a penchee photo. Gack! That's what got me working on arabesques like mad with a lovely result and shattered spinal disks but never mind :P
I actually have a strong arabesque - my problem is more an issue of strength/placement and flexibility (I can't even do splits, so my leg doesn't get very high).
The Company is just a local company attached to the studio - it's not a professional company. There are three major performances a year - a full length ballet in Spring, divertissements in Fall, and Nutcracker. It may not be much, but for me, it would be an opportunity to perform, something most adult dancers don't have.
