Love, Money, Ballet

The "new" pointe shoes that I've had for about a month and a half now may be dead already. Seriously? It's not like I'm 15 all over again and dancing shoes to death in a matter of weeks. I only have about 3 hours of pointe per week, tops. I'm going to have to create a special "Shoe Budget" if I start going through shoes fast again. It's not like I ( Read more... )

I wear Grishko 07s and they usually last about 3 months (although I do have a tendency to really dance them to death). The main problem I have is the breakdown/softening of the box/tip of the shoe. I wish I was more of a "shank killer" than "box killer" because then I could just get a harder shank, but there's really no way to get a harder box.

My parents got lucky in that I got so tall no SIs wanted me :(

ohh, i used to wear griskos but i broke down the shank. you could try wearing sanshas, which do have a harder shank but i believe they're more durable in general. I also believe they're only $40 as they're made for people with strong feet and/or a tendency to go through shoes very quickly.

Oh dear, I've done that thing again where I've given away too much of myself in writing. I'm so absorbed in the technical aspects of things, in measuring progress and success, mitigating and preventing failure, solving problems, and putting all my energy into striving to be better, that I completely and utterly neglect my heart. It happens all the time - I take love for granted and don't even know it.

Don't get me wrong - I do love ballet, or else I wouldn't dance. In the context of this post, that love is supposed to be implied, known without having to be spoken, but I forget that only exists in my head. It's the one thing that I assume everyone already knows, and therefore it's not worth mentioning. In retrospect I guess it's the most important thing, but I have it all backwards.

I'm not even counting the other equipment (uniform, slippers) and extracurricular (books, CDs, DVDs, performance tickets and theater donations) in this post, either. In April I'll be flying to NYC to see Uliana Lopatkina, but the expense will be so worth ( ... )
