Gosh I love my little crop of dreadlocks so much. I'd have to say they are one of my most prized possessions. So with that, I'd have to say I'm pretty horrified at the prospect of having to cut them off in the weeks to come. Oh... that's kinda sad :( Your hair is very cute, but for me, I've always loved your hair in whatever style it is in, so I'm always looking forward to the next best thing to grow on top of your lovely head.
I'm not really sure what else to say, since I don't think there is much. But it'll be ok :D

Though, I'm very anxious to also meet any new pets. It would be an awesome way to cope with the loss of your dreds.

Never get rid of your dreads on account of ANYONE else, regardless of who they are! You'll regret it if you do, and besides, what you do with YOUR hair if up to you and you alone, so what does it matter if anyone else doesn't like your dreads?

Keep them, your mom will get used to them. :)

your mom has hated everything you've ever done since middle school....but she gets over it eventually. is it because the holidays mean every relative will see your freakin sweet hair? so give them something to talk about. she loves you, so she'll learn to love your hair too!
