Holidays, art, and a cute dead owl

So much to talk about. I hope everyone's holidays were awesome! They ended too soon I think. Despite the financial bind my family was in this year, everyone really went balls out with the gifts! I definitely loved watching everyone else open theirs more than I enjoyed opening mine this year though. I had so many surprises for everyone, and that's ( Read more... )

My family is really poor, but my mom always, always finds some way to spoil us. We still do Santa around my house even though no one really believes in Santa anymore, and she managed to fill all of the couches and chairs in our living room with stuff for me and my sisters. I told her not to worry about it because BOY do I understand money issues, but jeeze. She's amazing. And my family was surprised that I got them gifts at all because I haven't had a job. I love making them happy, and I agree that watching other people open the gifts from you is the best part of Christmas morning. Ah ♥

Gosh I love seeing your ART. It's the most beautiful and unique and ugh. I swear if I ever wanted a beautiful organic tattoo I would come to you to design it. But I don't think I'll be getting many more tattoos so... X3

THE ROLLERBLADER ROADKILL. Oh MAN I love him can't wait to see him finished *_*
afdasdsfg armadillo forest?!?!? djdohmygofd I die of awesome sob SOB ♥ ♥

Pretty face indeed. What a gorgeous bird. Her skull and body is so tiny after the procedure, kind of eerie ;; I love the eye-business.
I wish I could do this, working through all that and being able to touch and get to know the owl's every part would be amazing. One of my classmates did this to a dead squirrel I think, don't take my word for this as I just heard about it, but should a dead animal's flesh be boiled first if you want to take it apart? Would it smell? Where would a beginner like me learn to do this stuff? I've thought about this for a while actually, this entry made me so excited O: I want skulllssss
Birdhead, gah I want one. Gorgeous gorgeous

I'd have to say the owl lady was about 60% fluff, if not more! She was so plushy to hold. Boiling works well only when there is not a ton of flesh left on the body, or when used in conjunction with dermestid beetle cleaning and hydrogen peroxide. When I clean bones, I will usually try to carve as much meat off of the bones as I can, let them air dry, and then let my beetle colony do the rest c: Hydrogen peroxide is usually the last step in the process and helps to make the bones bright and pretty! If you want to learn more about cleaning and stuff, you should totally join furhideandbone! There's a lot of information there, and everyone is always super willing to help beginners start!

And usually if you find the kill fresh, the smell in not bad at all! She had been dead for almost a week before the carving started, and the smell wasn't anything that a simple face mask couldn't help. You should totally get into this hobby :x It's so fun and crazy informative about animal anatomy and physiology!

Beetles, wah.. you should post pictures of that procedure too XD Do you keep them just for that purpose or as pets, too?

This sounds sadly like stuff I should do at the country, I don't I'll be able to do it on small apartment buildings :c but whenever I'll visit my childhood home/parent's place I need to look into this, my cats kill plenty of stuff over there, haha.

Won't the bodies be full of maggots and such though? Or does it take a while for 'em to show up? I totally want to get into this now, I've been graving for bones forever *_*

I keep them mostly just for cleaning, though it is super fun to watch them as the population grows overtime! This would definitely be something you would want to do at a house. Unless you have a porch or something. My friend cleans dead things on his porch, so that works too!

If you catch a body fresh, the maggots shouldn't be an issue. But if you do by chance find a body you really want AND it has maggots and other decomposers already on site, it would be best to hide the body in an area where it won't be found/disposed of/eaten by animals and just let them finish the job. Maggots do an awesome job of cleaning too. Or if you want, you can take the body, maggots and all, and let it soak in water. This is actually another way to clean the bones, as water will accelerate the softening and decomp of the tissues. AND if you have a garden or anything like that, the plants will LOVE the nasty water when you're through!

I think my favorite was probably the poncho-esque Lady Grey. I really like that one for some reason. I'm glad that your holidays were really good. You've had such a hard time, and holidays are so nice. And I commend you. I've always had an iron wall of a stomach but I totally don't think I could have done what you did to that owl. This is why I could never be a vet. Ever. I could watch, yes, but never actually do. So yay you. It looks pretty cool, and I bet you learned a lot too but I'll stick with the pictures ;) I missed you a lot, and I hope I can get my butt out of bed so we can go see Juno today

For the most part the owl just reminded me of cleaning a chicken, so it wasn't that bad! She was a little stinky on the inside though. Dude, I was having second thoughts about being a vet. Like I wanted to possibly do it again, but when I went to go pick up Ember from your pa's clinic there was this man with his dog there that had to get euthanasia :c It took every ounce of my body to keep me from crying and looking pathetic. I totally could not handle doing that everyday, so I can home and watched Crocodile Hunter and remembered why herpetology is for me!

I can't wait to see you today! I've been dieing to see that movie all break :x

Exactly, I just couldn't handle it. I've had plenty of experience just going there. I even helped put my dog Sassy to sleep. It's just too hard for me and definitely not what I'm going to be doing in m life. I'm extremely excited about seeing it too.

At the Regal times are 5:15 and 7:35 reasonable times that is. And at the Evans its 5:10 and 7:35. So yeah, not too much to chose from but does a time/place sound good to you?

Oooo hmmm. Both sound pretty good to me. Hard choice! I know Blair is going to the 5:10 one at the Regal. Which would work better for you?
