life in the suburban wilderness

Last year I had the opportunity to live in an amazing AMAZING house. It was like a little animal forest in my front and back yards (and sometimes in my ceiling and laundry room). Sounds awesome!
That's actually a red-BELLIED woodpecker! Name is kind of misleading, but hey.
I always wince at seeing so many houses with just... lawn. Having gardens/trees is so much... awesomer! ;D

Oh god....I always make that mistake. My ornithologist housemate always corrected me, but I don't think I'll ever learn EVER. Bird people and their tricky bird names! I'm sticking to scaly beasts.
After this housing experience, I'm SO over the manicured-lawn-with-annuals-garden. Wild growth is the way to go!!!
