It was a good day yesterday. Definitely a great way to start a week after a long weekend. I spent the morning pressing plants and mounting dried specimens. I loooove pressing plants! SOso much. I just bought a bunch of new mason jars, so I went out around the apartments to harvest some of the super squishy moss that lives there. I love pulling up ( Read more... )

MOSS AND BIKES. There is this amazing patch of moss hidden in a corner of a lumberyard I always pass while walking to work, now I want to go kidnap some. I suppose moss is pretty easy to take care of indoors in a jar, right? My dad always had bonsai trees while I was growing up, and mossbeds in every pot was a standard. I should make a mossjar and put tiny clay mushrooms in it! AAA. <3
I am bike-less now, but I may be able to get one soon, so I envy you. It would be great to have some easier transportation to get down to the tide pools, so here's hoping. c:

Moss is super easy to take care of! Just keep them wet and slightly shaded c: They're like little fantasy worlds inside jars and you should TOTALLY build a mushroom one. SERIOUSLY. I want to see pictures if you do!!!
I'm am so sorry about your bike-less state :c May a new bikey friend enter your life soooon. They provide you with such a sense of freedom, don't they?! I don't know how I managed this far without mine!

Also, hi you! How have you been?!

I am well! I'm living in Seattle now and I love the rainy weather and ocean and THE PLANTS. It's so amazing to finally live somewhere where ferns and moss and leafy trees just spring up all over the place (wild sweetpeas, too!).
We have awesome little fat black bumblebees here, too, but they all recently went into hibernation, it seems. After the chill, I'm starting a bumblebee garden on the balcony. Red clover, viper's bugloss, catmint, all bumblebee favorites I got from a British seed company online.
ALSO AHAHA I JUST GOT A BIKE like three hours after posting that last comment. Amazing!

The temperate rainforests out west sound wonderful c: Have you seen the big sequoias yet? I've always wanted to see one of those guys up close.

My neighbors have a bumble garden on their porch and it's HILARIOUS to watch the bumbles get all territorial over the flower baskets! There's this one that will hover in place and maintain vigilance over his little flowers and it cracks me up! (he's probably not, but that's the story in my head...bumblers are too cute not to personify)
