It was raining…
… the time Yabu saw Inoo around his faculty building that afternoon. The civil engineering building.
He was running under the misty curtain of the rain into the building main entrance.
This will be the first time Yabu sees him again. After a month passed since Inoo moved out with Hikaru. After days elapsed with him waiting for Inoo to suddenly come around to his apartment.
Somehow.
Still, hoping for Inoo to just abruptly come around over something as witless as a mere 6 meters square balcony is just plainly ludicrous.
Yabu awares of that.
It was when he saw Inoo accidentally dropped all of the blue print rolls that he’s holding to the ground, Yabu gained his consciousness back from his own thought. Yabu quickly open up his umbrella and pace his feet to Inoo’s direction.
While on the other hand, Inoo gasped a little when the blue print slipped from his hand and fell down before hurriedly squatted down to grab the blue print rolls. The raindrops fell upon him and getting drench is something inescapable now.
But suddenly, the pouring raindrops stopped. Frowning slightly, Inoo look up and there he found Yabu, standing right beside him with an umbrella that covered them both from the rain.
“Forgot your umbrella today, Inoo-chan?” Yabu greeted lightly. He knew well this forgetful habit of Inoo. There was once he forgot to bring his wallet, his phone, or his blue print.
“Yabu!” Inoo exclaimed as he stood up on his feet. “Hisashiburiiii~~” he chirped with a wide smile spread on his face.
And the yearning feeling encompassed Yabu when he saw the smile on Inoo’s face again.
It’s been awhile and he missed this smile. He missed Inoo. He missed him too much.
“What are you doing around here?” Yabu asked.
“I’m going to meet Hika, actually. We promised to have dinner outside today and he said he’ll pick me up after my class. But since my last class finished earlier, I thought I’ll surprise him and go pick him up instead,” Inoo explained.
“Have you seen him?” Inoo asked then.
“No, I have class on the second floor today, while his is on the third one,” Yabu answered and Inoo just nods his head to the answer.
“Come, I’ll walk you there,” Yabu offered all the sudden and Inoo beamed at the suggestion in that instant.
“Un!” Inoo nodded in agreement. “Arigatou, Yabu,” Inoo said then. And Yabu just answered it with a light smile before they started to walk.
Sneaking a glance at Inoo who walks beside him, Yabu smile slightly.
Time.
If only it could stop right there.
Too bad stopping is not something time would do, no matter how Yabu wish for time to spare them apart from moving. And Yabu secretly let out a bitter smile.
Unnoticedly, he shifted the umbrella more to Inoo’s side, leaving his right shoulder wetted by the falling rain.
“Have you got new roommate?” Inoo broke the silence between them. Yabu shook his head.
“Hontou? But it’s been a month, right? Besides, I heard Takaki said that there’s some people whom interested with the empty room.”
12 people.
There were already 12 people who came and offered for Inoo’s previous room in this month and that’s the number of times Yabu rejected each offers from them too.
And Yabu knew, Inoo might never come back, even Takaki said that it’s no use to keep the room empty.
But keeping Inoo’s room as it is, is the only thing he can do to ease the weight on his heart after Inoo left.
“I just… haven’t found the right person for the room yet,” Yabu reasoned out.
“Ah, sou…”
“And how is it? Living with Hika…”
“Nerve-wracking!” Inoo answered with a pout on his lips.
“Eee?”
“He sings too loud in the bathroom! He prefers the food steamed, I prefer it grilled! It’s such a pain to wake him up in the morning! I literally had to drag him out of the bed to the bathroom, can you believe that?! We even fight over the tv’s remote control several times just because he wants to watch the music channel in my usual time to watch the news!”
“And oh! Once he got a hold of his guitar, you can never separate them apart! He can stick with that thing for one whole day!” Inoo ranted, looking obviously annoyed.
Then Inoo heave a long sigh. “Life is so much peaceful when I’m still your roommates…”
But still, you chose to be with him… Yabu gave a faint smile as a respond. But then he noticed how Inoo’s eyes suddenly turned gleam and a delight smile engraved on his face not long after that.
“But Hika, ne… he’s full of surprises,” Inoo said then. “He likes to put my name in every song he sang in the bathroom, even if it’ll only ruin the song, he’d stubbornedly put my name on it and sing it out loud.”
“When he gave me a surprise dinner, he cooked me steak. He grilled it by himself, he ate it too, you know… And although it can be a pain to wake him up in the morning, but I love to stare at his sleeping face…”
“You know, one day, I got mad at him because he kept playing around with his guitar, even though it’s 4 in the morning already, and he hasn’t sleep even a bit…”
“I remember I yelled a lot at that time, but he just stayed quiet and listening to everything I said. And then he asked me to sit with him before he sang me a song… and that song is for me,” Inoo finished his story with a gentle smile tugged on his face.
And Yabu wondered, if it mean to be this hurt to be heartbroken. Is it suppose to be this hard to see the person you love, falling deeply for somebody else?
Yabu doesn’t have a clue.
But all he knows, his heart tweaked badly right now. With each words that Inoo said. With the way he saw how deep the love Inoo has for his bestfriend through the glint on his eyes as he speak about him.
“Are? Isn’t that Hika?” Inoo suddenly stopped his feet when he spotted his boyfriend’s figure near the main entrance of the building.
Yabu stopped on his feet too and threw his gaze at Hikaru’s direction. He saw his bestfriend kept on busy looking up to the sky that still pouring down the rain.
“What is he doing just standing there?” Inoo wondered.
“He doesn’t bring the umbrella,” Yabu answered.
“Heeee…,” Inoo whined.
“Here,” Yabu said as he grab Inoo’s hand and shove the umbrella to the latter who can only blink his eyes in confusion. “Take the umbrella with you.”
“But how about you? Besides, this is your umbrella.”
“Don’t worry about me. Just take this and go meet Hika,” Yabu assured.
“No, Yabu-”
“Say hi for me to Hika,” Yabu said. He ruffles gently Inoo’s hair and smiling softly at the said guy before make a run through the rain. Even before Inoo had a chance to say anything.
He run. As fast as he can. On the 770th days he falls in love with Inoo Kei.

“Omedetouuuuuuu!!!!!”
It was 7 o’clock in the evening when Inoo came back and welcomed by a loud cheerings and the flying confetties.
Inoo’s eyes widened in surprise to see the living room’s wall already decorated with balloons, foods and drinks are set on the living room’s table, there’s also a banner hanging on the wall that said, ‘Congratulation Our Next Great Architect!!!!’.
It was the 783th day.
And Yabu was invited. He was invited by Hikaru to come to a surprise party for Inoo. To celebrate Inoo’s success in winning the design competition. The three of them.
Yabu knew his heart might get crush even worse this time. But he came.
Although his heart clenching in pain when Hikaru gave his congratulation to Inoo and pull the other guy into his embrace.
Despite all of that.
He came.
“Omedetou, Inoo-chan,” Yabu said, smiling at Inoo as he patted gently the latter’s head.
“Arigatou, Yabu~~” Inoo had his wide grin on him before something on the side table of the couch attracted him.
A bucket of lilies. His favourite flower.
“Aaa~~ Lilies!” Inoo exclaimed. He immediately came to the side table and took a bucket of lilies on it.
And Yabu could feel nothing as he went numb when Inoo bouncing excitedly to Hikaru’s direction with the lilies on his hands and launch himself onto the said guy. Hugging tightly his boyfriend who look bewildered by his action.
“How do you know lily are my favourite? I don’t remember I told you about this before,” Inoo asked after he broke the hug and stared at his confuse boyfriend.
And the answer for Inoo’s question simply will be, he never did. He never told Hikaru that lily is his favourite flower. He told someone about it, but it’s not Hikaru.
It’s Yabu.
On the 365th days Yabu falls in love with him. Inoo was accompanying Yabu on the florist when Yabu intended to buy lilies for his mother who would come to their apartment that day.
And Inoo told him that it was his favourite flower.
Lily is.
“B-but, it’s-” Hikaru tried to explain but only to be cut by Inoo when he hug him again.
“Hika, arigatouuu~” Inoo said while tightening his hug.
Hikaru threw a look at Yabu. Somehow he felt guilty for he knew that the lilies are from Yabu, not him. And he felt even more guiltier when Yabu just smile full of sincerity at him and nod lightly as if telling him that it’s not a big deal.
That it’s alright.

“Yabu, wait!”
Yabu was a few step away from Hikaru’s apartment door, he’s about to go home when he heard Hikaru called him from behind.
He stopped and turned around only to find his bestfriend running up to him, with his jacket on.
“Are you going somewhere?” Yabu asked, looking confuse.
“Un, I’m walking you home~”
“What?!? I’m not a girl!” Yabu said. He put on a gross face at the statement.
“Shiteru~”
“Then don’t say that! You’re freaking me out!” Yabu retorted with a horrified look.
“I’m serious yo~ I’ll walk you home. Beside, lately we rarely have our buddy-buddy chat, deshou?”
Yabu chuckled a little while shaking his head as he started to walk again with Hikaru walking beside him.
Nevertheless it’s true.
They rarely got time together and chat with each other after that day. The day Yabu figured out that Hikaru and Inoo officially dating each other.
It’s not that Yabu hates Hikaru for that. After all love is not as simple as meeting someone and fall for that someone. It involves everything else in it. Time, chance, place, everyone around you, and fate.
And Yabu strongly believe it was fate that brought Inoo and his bestfriend together. And he couldn’t hates Hikaru nor Inoo for that.
No, it’s not because hate. It’s because he’s afraid. Hikaru has been his bestfriend since childhood, they knew almost everything about each other, they read each other just like an open book.
And for that, Yabu feels afraid. He’s afraid for as long as he still fell for Inoo, Hikaru might soon discover his feelings for Inoo.
He might’ve hid it well from everyone else, includes Inoo, about his own feelings. But he doubts he can hide it from his bestfriend.
And that’d be the reason why Yabu trying to distance himself lately from Hikaru.
“So, how have you been?” Hikaru opened a topic once they’re already out the apartment building.
“Good…”
“Sou…” Hikaru nods his head at the answer. “Kei told me that you still haven’t got the new roommates yet. Is that true?”
“Un…”
“Why?”
“I haven’t found the right person for the room yet.”
“Really?”
“Yep. The last person that offered the room is a freshman in our university. His name is Ryutaro. He’s actually a nice kid, but I can’t stand his spoiled-nagging-shorty boyfriend.”
“Spoiled-nagging-shorty boyfriend?”
Yabu nodded. “His name is Chinen or something. He kept on asking things when they came. ‘Does the room have its own bathroom?’, ‘Do you have maid to clean up this place?’, and even worse, he asked about my criminal records in the end!”
Hikaru bursted into laughter by the time Yabu finished his story.
“I was this close of getting angry and kicking them out of my apartment at that time!” Yabu said in an irritated tone.
But in the end, remembering back about what happened that day, Yabu found himself giggling along with Hikaru instead.
“But no, seriously, is there really nobody that you found good enough to be the new roommates?” Hikaru asked again after awhile.
“No,” Yabu said, smiling a little.
“Or… is it because none of them is Kei, I wonder?” Hikaru asked in a playful tone. Yabu got startle at the question, he turned to look at Hikaru with his brows furrowed.
“W-what is that suppose to mean?”
“Anything…” Hikaru showed his goofy smile at him. He doesn’t look mad or upset, he looks calm, just like his usual self, even though Yabu knows he might be already knew about his feeling for Inoo by this time.
They walk in silence for a brief moment before Hikaru speak again.
“How long do you plan to keep this from me?” Hikaru asked lightly but Yabu can’t answer anything to that.
“14,” Hikaru muttered. “That’s the number of years I’ve been your bestfriend. Do you really look down on me as your bestfriend that much, Yabu? Did you really think I wouldn’t know after those 14 years of being your bestfriend?”
Yabu still could only stay in silence. He doesn’t really know what to say at this time.
“I knew yo~~”
“S-since when?” Yabu dared himself to ask.
“On the surprise birthday party we threw for you,” Hikaru said then. “I can tell by the way you look at Kei at that time. It was the first time I realized it. Too bad, I realized it late, because I already confess to him,” Hikaru smiled guiltily.
“No, it’s not-”
“Why didn’t you tell him about your feeling?” Hikaru cut in.
“I… don’t have that much of a guts like you, I guess…” And Hikaru just snickered at Yabu’s answer.
“Na, Yabu~~”
“Nani?”
“Truthfully, ever since I got together with Kei, I feel afraid. Everyday, I always wonder if I’ve loved him enough all this time? If I’ve been good enough for him?”
“That’s why, if I failed in loving him, somehow. Promise me that you’ll love him properly.”
“What are you talking about?”
“I knew you can love him good, even more than I can. I knew it~ I’m your buddy, deshou?!?” Hikaru exclaimed while wrapping his arm around Yabu’s shoulder as he blinks his eyes.
“Don’t talk non-sense, Hika.”
“I’m not. Beside, I said ‘if’, deshou?” Hikaru retorted. “Just promise me that, Yabu,” Hikaru said whilst smiling softly at his bestfriend.

Ever since Inoo moved out with Hikaru, Yabu was waiting. He was waiting for the latter to come around, even for a reason as silly as a 6 meters square balcony.

Though he was sure that day might never come.

That one cloudy evening. Inoo came. He found him there, on that 6 meters square balcony. Sitting on the corner of the balcony while hugging both of his legs tightly.
His hair quite messy, his face’s pale and he has bag eyes. He looks tired and weak. And tears just kept on flowing down from his eyes as he cries in silence.
It was when he saw Yabu squatted down in front of him, Inoo broke into tears and his body shaking badly due to the crying.
And to pull him securely into his embrace is the only thing Yabu can do for Yabu doesn’t even know what to say nor what to do. He just hug Inoo as tight as he can, letting the latter crying on his embrace.
He was waiting. And Inoo came.

Yabu nodded. “His name is Chinen or something. He kept on asking things when they came. ‘Does the room have its own bathroom?’, ‘Do you have maid to clean up this place?’, and even worse, he asked about my criminal records in the end!”
Hikaru bursted into laughter by the time Yabu finished his story.
“I was this close of getting angry and kicking them out of my apartment at that time!” Yabu said in an irritated tone.
But in the end, remembering back about what happened that day, Yabu found himself giggling along with Hikaru instead.
“But no, seriously, is there really nobody that you found good enough to be the new roommates?” Hikaru asked again after awhile.
“No,” Yabu said, smiling a little.
“Or… is it because none of them is Kei, I wonder?” Hikaru asked in a playful tone. Yabu got startle at the question, he turned to look at Hikaru with his brows furrowed.
“W-what is that suppose to mean?”
“Anything…” Hikaru showed his goofy smile at him. He doesn’t look mad or upset, he looks calm, just like his usual self, even though Yabu knows he might be already knew about his feeling for Inoo by this time.
They walk in silence for a brief moment before Hikaru speak again.
“How long do you plan to keep this from me?” Hikaru asked lightly but Yabu can’t answer anything to that.
“14,” Hikaru muttered. “That’s the number of years I’ve been your bestfriend. Do you really look down on me as your bestfriend that much, Yabu? Did you really think I wouldn’t know after those 14 years of being your bestfriend?”
Yabu still could only stay in silence. He doesn’t really know what to say at this time.
“I knew yo~~”
“S-since when?” Yabu dared himself to ask.
“On the surprise birthday party we threw for you,” Hikaru said then. “I can tell by the way you look at Kei at that time. It was the first time I realized it. Too bad, I realized it late, because I already confess to him,” Hikaru smiled guiltily.
“No, it’s not-”
“Why didn’t you tell him about your feeling?” Hikaru cut in.
“I… don’t have that much of a guts like you, I guess…” And Hikaru just snickered at Yabu’s answer.
“Na, Yabu~~”
“Nani?”
“Truthfully, ever since I got together with Kei, I feel afraid. Everyday, I always wonder if I’ve loved him enough all this time? If I’ve been good enough for him?”
“That’s why, if I failed in loving him, somehow. Promise me that you’ll love him properly.”
“What are you talking about?”
“I knew you can love him good, even more than I can. I knew it~ I’m your buddy, deshou?!?” Hikaru exclaimed while wrapping his arm around Yabu’s shoulder as he blinks his eyes.
“Don’t talk non-sense, Hika.”
“I’m not. Beside, I said ‘if’, deshou?” Hikaru retorted. “Just promise me that, Yabu,” Hikaru said whilst smiling softly at his bestfriend.

Ever since Inoo moved out with Hikaru, Yabu was waiting. He was waiting for the latter to come around, even for a reason as silly as a 6 meters square balcony.
It was foolish.
But he was waiting.
Though he was sure that day might never come.
But it did.
That one cloudy evening. Inoo came. He found him there, on that 6 meters square balcony. Sitting on the corner of the balcony while hugging both of his legs tightly.
His hair quite messy, his face’s pale and he has bag eyes. He looks tired and weak. And tears just kept on flowing down from his eyes as he cries in silence.
It was when he saw Yabu squatted down in front of him, Inoo broke into tears and his body shaking badly due to the crying.
And to pull him securely into his embrace is the only thing Yabu can do for Yabu doesn’t even know what to say nor what to do. He just hug Inoo as tight as he can, letting the latter crying on his embrace.
He was waiting. And Inoo came.
That one cloudy evening.
On the 1330th days he falls in love with him.
A week after Hikaru left this world.
