"H-how is he??" Yabu instantly rushed his way to the doctor whom just came out of the emergency room. Panic strucked. Hopes, anxieties, written all over his face, lacing his voice.
"Are you his family?" the doctor asked and it dawned bitter realization on him as Yabu found himself unable to proceed a single word to answer it.
"Please let our Kei come home to us, Yabu-kun," Inoo's mom finally unchained the silent befell between him and his spouse's parents on the hospital's lounge.
"W-what?" and his response came nearly in whisper as he looked at his parents in laws, with a hope he misheard the question somehow.
"With Kei's condition now, it might be best to have someone to look after him and accompany him on every seconds of the day."
"I can do that," Yabu quickly said, unhesitant. But it doesn't seem enough to convince Inoo's parents. Well, nothing would ever be enough to convince them when it comes to him. From day one Inoo introduced him as his lover to his family even till the very day they marry each other, he's just simply never enough in his parents eyes.
"But, you still have to do your work too, right? By that time, Kei would be alone in your house. What if something happens to him? Or if he needs anything. Besides, I just can't imagine my baby boy to be alone in an environment like that after all of this, Yabu-kun. W-what if the same thing happen again?"
"But, he's my responsibility now. T-trust me on this, I can take care of him. I will. You don't have to worry about him being alone, when I go to work, my mom can look after him and I'll stop by at our house every hour, the construction site where I work now is really close to our house now, I-"
"Still," and it was Inoo's father stern voice that stopped him. "We can't be sure when Kei would gain his memory back for this moment. The doctor said himself that it might be somewhen soon or it might needs awhile. If your work on the construction site right now has done and you've assigned to work on another site that happens to be far from home, what would you do? Don't you think it'd be impossible to keep checking on him every hour?"
And to that, Yabu can say nothing. It is one indisputable possibility after all. Being a construction worker, he can't really acting picky on where he'd be placed on. And yet, agreeing on his parents in law's suggestion about letting Inoo come home to them means being separated with him and it isn't one easy choice to choose.
He wants to be there for him, as much as he can, he wants to. Though it kills him when Inoo has this look on him as if he doesn't know him, as if they're strangers, he can take it. Though it might take awhile or longer until Inoo can recovers from his partial amnesia, that too, Yabu can take it. But living apart from him, it's too much. Just too much.
"Please, let Kei stay with me. I promise I'll do everything and take good care of him. I'll go find a new place to live, a safer one."
"Yabu-kun-"
"He's having our baby. He needs me," Yabu desperately insisted.
"Do you love my son, Yabu-kun?" Inoo father asked him after somewhere of silence. Yabu nodded as an answer.
"Then, don't you think it's best for Kei to get all the best treatment he can get right now? Don't you think it's best for him to just recover right now?"
"I do, and I-"
"I beg of you," Inoo's father suddenly stood up from the couch and bowed in front of him. "Let him be with us…"
"No," Yabu answered the doctor, smiling up the bitterness stirring his heart. "I-I… I'm… I'm the one who sent him here. I was there, i-in his flower shop, when he suddenly fell unconscious… so I, yeah…"
"I see."
"But, how is he? Is he alright?"
"He is. He'll wake up soon, don't worry. He's just overtired, but if after this he doesn't take plenty of rest, I'm afraid it'd be bad for him and the baby. Do you… happen to know any of his family or someone who's responsible for him contact number so we can call them and explain his condition?"
"I do," Yabu nodded weakly. "Let me call them for you."
"Thank you," the doctor bowed slightly with a smile.
"But…" Yabu halted on his words, feeling unsure on what he's about to say. "Can I… see him? Is it alright? I just want to-"
"Sure, it's alright," the doctor immediately agree before patting his shoulder and walked away. Leaving Yabu unsure in front of the emergency's door. It's been how many days he never see Inoo, Yabu couldn't even remember it anymore. Uncertainty, fear, the deluding feeling of missing the latter, all mixed together, causing him to stood still in front of the emergency's door before he finally courage himself to walk inside.
Walking pass the green curtain, Yabu's steps went slower as the bed where Inoo's resting right now slowly came into view. And his feet make a complete stop when he spotted the dainty figure currently sleeping soundly on one of the emergency's bed.
All these days being apart from him, there're just too many things Yabu wish to do. He wants to see him, dying to hear his voice, craving his laughter and smiles, badly misses touching him, his touches, and all, and all. He missed him.
Yet, he couldn't do any of it. He couldn't even make a single step closer to him. He was overpowered by every feelings, confusions, and uncertainties. Uncertainties whether everything would be so much better if Inoo never meets him. Then, the latter might still living a happy peaceful life. He'd be making his way to reaching out his dream to be a painter and not living a stuck-up life with him. And then, that accident would never happen to him.
"Yabu-kun! Yabu-kun!" his co-worker shouted his name as he's running to him while he's doing his work on the construction site that night. "Someone called the office…," his co-worker said between his panting. "It's the police…"
"Eh?"
"They said Kei-chan is in the hospital," the information had Yabu frozen in fear at once. "Some people barged into your house, t-they're taking things and Kei-chan-"
Yabu care less about the rest of the explanation for all that he can think of right now is to get to the hospital to see his Kei-chan…
"I'm sorry," was his only whisper before Yabu dashed out of the emergency room.
He finally see him again. His Kei-chan. He could've waited for him to wake up and hear his voice, he can wait forever to hear his laughter and greeted by that smile again. He could've…
"I, promise to love you… you only, there'd be no other. To love you today and to love you even more, tomorrow and more days afterwards, for the rest of my life. As eternal as eternity defines itself, I shall love you just as much. On every day and every minutes of my life, I'd love you and I'll do everything to make you happy."
It's just, aside than loving him and be devoted to only him weren't Yabu only promise to him. He promised Inoo too, on their wedding day, that he'd do everything to make him happy.
"Sir!" a called halted Yabu on his feet. He turned around and saw a nurse walking to him. "I'm sorry, you're the one who brought Inoo Kei-san here, right?" Yabu nodded quietly. "Morikita-sensei wants me to confirm if you already contact Inoo-san's family-"
"I did," Yabu answered. "He's on his way here now…"
"H-he?"
Yabu can clearly see eeriness on his parents in law face as he handed them the brown envelope. His divorce paper.
"I've signed it," Yabu said, tried to putting on a smile despite of his sinking heart.
"Yabu-kun, we-"
"I know, I did this on my own will. You might think I'm running away from my responsibility but I, I want him to have his life back. The life he owns before he met me. With or without his memory about me and everything that has happened these passed 5 years, I want him to have it back, to have everything he should've have if only he never meet me in the first place," and he couldn't help a tear trickling off his eyes. Already regretting doing it, this is not even what he wants, but there's no other way, there isn't any single choice to begin with.
Right now, the memories Inoo has is only his memory before these passed 5 years. And on that time, he was someone else's Kei-chan. He wasn't his. So, when Inoo woke up after several days sleeping in coma after that incident on the construction site and found out he's on the fourth month of pregnancy, the one he turned to and gave his most delight smile was that person. The one he belongs to, before these 5 passed years, before he met him.
It broke every bit of Yabu's heart, seeing it happens right in front of his eyes. But, this is also his only chance to fix every pieces of Inoo's life back to how it was, to how it should be. And before anyone in the room could react at that moment, Yabu's the one to congratulates him. The act that caught everyone in surprise, everyone but Inoo whose smile went even wider as he thanked him.
"But… who are you again?" Inoo asked, politely nonetheless after he thank him. "You just seem to be around a lot since I got hospitalized. I remember you introduced yourself a few days a go, but I can't remember your name. I-I'm so sorry, it's just, I strangely tend to forget things easily now…"
"It's alright," Yabu shook his head and smiled at him. "I'm Yabu Kota, I'm the worker on your boyfriend's-"
"Construction project?" Inoo continued his words and Yabu nodded. "Right, I remember you being the worker of his construction project…"
And no matter how bitter it feels, him being Inoo's boyfriend's worker is the only thing Yabu hope for Inoo to remember about him. His very last memory of him.
"Yeah, his fiancee. Yaotome Hikaru."
