Baking Program

Feb 05, 2006 23:23

Hi there! I am a new member. I do not attend this school...but I could! I plan on pursuing a career in cake decorating, so I was wondering if anyone has an opinion on their baking program. Do you think this is a good school from one hoping to pursue a career in this area? Any honest help is greatly appreciated!

for one*

Sorry...just noticed a typo I needed to fix, but I don't feel I need to go and edit it for some reason. LoL.

I couldn't really tell you about the baking program because I am in the culinary program. But I can offer up some advice. Take as many cooking classes at your school or even just in your community as you can. When you get a little older, I suggest looking for a job in a pastry shop, or something similar. Culinary school will give you a good foundation of knowledge, but experience is key. Good luck!

Hi, I'm not a member of this group but I'm a cake decorator. If that is what you want to do, try taking the Wilton classes at your local craft store first. They are good and will get you just as good as the small section of time at a Cordon Bleu school. It's also a HECK of a lot cheaper.

Also, after you finish your Wilton classes, there is a Masters class for a little under 1000 dollars in Illinois at the Wilton school, there is the ICES (http://www.ices.org) convention every year in Texas, and lots of other ways to learn from the masters when you ONLY want to study cake decorating.

Thanks. Yeah, I've already taken the Wilton Courses (1-3). I'm just strying to to think many years ahead. Maybe I will just go off of experience and practice, and just go to like...business school or something to work on business management for when I open my own place. I'm not sure, but I guess I have a lot of time to think about it.

Thanks!
