Absolutely gorgeous - the perfect amount of fluff and thought. I'm a fan of the slow build, especially given how plausibly it progresses in this story. I also wanted to give a special mention to your Spock - above everything else in this story, I was going "yes" to all his actions, which points to a wonderful characterisation. Very, literally, logical Spock behaviour.

Unravelling on many levels that at that point in the story Kirk isn't ready to admit yet -- very lovely!
