My mother and one of my best friends are both atheists, and I was for a bit. That said, one of my other best friends is Catholic, which makes for some really interesting theological discussions.
I'm Jewish (on both sides of the family, though my mother only refers to herself as a cultural Jew), and I find a lot of comfort in my religion. I did question it (and G-d) for a while during high school, but I've settled into a very comfortable acceptance. It's especially interesting majoring in the sciences and being religious. Something I've found with Judaism especially is that it's not entirely the religion but the culture that you embrace. I love being Jewish and all it entails (particularly the copious amounts of delicious dessert).
I believe in God. The end. Seriously though, I don't believe in organized religion. (Bitter Catholic schoolgirl, much?). I really think that religion is one of the main causes of all the division/prejudice in our world. About 2 years ago I researched all sorts of religions. I just take the principles that I feel are true and then apply them to my life. I also believe in an after life. I guess you could label it as heaven. I don't believe in hell or purgatory. I just believe in being totally accepting and caring to fellow humans. No matter what. I don't believe there are any rules or services that you have to attend. God isn't commandments, or some supreme ruler that judges humans. God is the love that exists inside of us. Basically, I'm spiritual.
I'm a cradle Catholic. (Raised Catholic from birth) But I definitely didn't just go along with the religion because my parents are Catholic. Well actually, my dad is Episcopalian...I'm sure I just butchered the spelling...anyway, I think it should be noted that I'm not a traditional Catholic according to most people. I support gay marriage, and I have some issues with a few other teachings of the Church, but I choose to follow Catholicism anyway because there are a lot of great things about it
