so this paper i need to write is really hard core and structured, needs an index and a summary at the beginning and everything. and 2.5 and 3 cm margins - good thing my computer is sent in inches, lol. um yeah... i don't really know where to start

On Macs it's under "preferences" in the Word menu, but I'm 90% sure that on PCs in MS Word it's under Tools>Options, where you can change the units for the screen rulers (and hence the page setup) to inches, cm, points, picas, furlongs, light-years, whatever.
(Well, not furlongs or light-years.)

get this- changing to the specified margins made my paper longer rather than shorter -yes!!
