Tutorial -- default replacements

May 12, 2020 00:41

Hey guys! I've been working on writing a tutorial today :D It's still a work in progress, but I think the time has come for people to have a look at it.

It's friends only for now, I'll share with everyone when I'm sure it's 100% OK. This is working better than I'd thought, I'll share with everyone now!

Good tutorial :) I'd just like to point out that a default replacement mesh works just as well by just using the GMDC and also if you rename the custom mesh to the name of the original GMDC you don't need the original one either.

I know you can only replace the gmdc, but if you do that, things'll get screwed up when you merge families/move a teen to college. In the family screen, sims will snap back to the original mesh, but with the new textures. And when you share things with others... This is what I read about it.

I didn't know that :S I've never noticed a problem with doing it that way, when I first starting making default replacement meshes I just copied what HP had done in hers because I couldn't find a tutorial anywhere.

This method seems very useful for replacing different ages that share the same textures with different things for each age which I could never figure out lol.

by "Open the new mesh and extract the gmdc, gmnd, cres and shpe file."
You mean the same way you got the filenames of the defaults, right? Through bodyshop?

No, I meant: open the mesh file of the new clothes and rightclick the four parts - gmdc, gmnd, cres and shpe. Like the two pictures below that sentence. Does that make sense?

I think so. When I get SimPE working I'll try it (:

HOW DID I MISS THIS. I always forget about that search function in SimPE and go around digging through files. :P
