School has been ridiculous.  Way too long, but very interesting.   I'm taking a "Teaching English Learners" class and it is totally facinating.  All this linguistics stuff that I love.  It gave me lots of weird thoughts of aspirations of Post-Bacc work and masters degrees and doctorates from UCBerkeley and studying with George

hey, so i know you don't know me *that* well and i know i hardly ever (never?) post replies to you...but i thought i should let you know (if you don't already) of a line of research relating linguistics (specifically development of) and music. it's really, really fascinating stuff, such as 'does the phrasing in music help infants learn how to parse language structures (sentences, paragraphs, words, etc.)'...and further along that line, 'does music imitate "motherese"' (the baby-talk that parents do that actually does help infants learn language because it breaks it down), and 'what effect does music have prenatally in terms of language development,' and even 'does music *without words* even help in language development (because the phrasing is still there and provides somewhat of a background structure for later language development
