So yesterday, for the second time in my life, I was an [unwilling] participant in a road rage incident. The first time was about seven or so years ago and involved my friend Marc, who was driving, getting punched in the face and his door getting kicked in--you remember that, right Paul ( Read more... )

It sounds like he might have been strung out on something, for him to go from wanting you to move out of his way to obsessively wanting to sic revenge on you. With a kid in the passenger seat! As scary as that must have been, it would have been worse if he had gotten out of his truck.

I once accidentally cut off a man in his lane, and then when we got to the next red light, I watched in my rearview as he parked behind me and then got out of his car. By the time he got to my window all he said was "Watch your driving, buddy," but I could tell that he had been wanting to come out with much more.

I beginning to notice a correllation, and I'm not so sure it's a spurrious one, between non-necessary truck (i.e. I bought a Ford F350, but I work at a computer firm) or SUV driving and outward hostility on the roads. Everyone who has subsequently shared a road rage story with me begins it by saying "So there was this truck..." or "This SUV got right on my ass..." etc. It's particularly disturbing to me that children are usually present as well. What the heck is wrong with people!!!!

I hope I end up living in a city because then I can just take the subway...

Well, some people are assholes that need to vent their anger on other people. You are right to worry about the guy having a knife or gun. It's not a coincidence that stupid people and bad driving often go together. Glad to hear everything is "okay". Just some minor pyschological trauma, but what does anyone expect for a Friday afternoon??

How the hell do you manage to get into so much trouble when you drive!?
freak.

What have I learned from all this: people are assholes. For all the time he lost sitting behind me at the stop-light, he lost about twenty times that chasing me afterward. Just thinking about how crazy the whole thing was is giving me the shakes even now...

you didn't learn that you need to get plate info?

btw...the reason NYC is so awesome...if something like that happens, it's usually because you're in a cab!
