hells yes that is awesome! i am officially jealous of you. :) i am going to retire out there someday. :) meaning that i will retire to a tent and live out my days surfing and snorkeling . . . ahhhh, that's the life!
What snorkel company brought you to Lanai? The guide who told the legend of Sweetheart Rock (Pu'u Pehe) was wrong... but there's different interpretations of the legend anyway. I work in guest services at Manele Bay Hotel, that large resort on the water that you passed after Pu'u Pehe on the way to Shark Fin Cove, which is known here as Kaunolu.
It's interesting to see the "other" side of Hawaii again, even though I deal with tourists on a daily basis. You guys seem really nice; I've had honeymooning couples scream at me because their rooms had double beds because they didn't request a king and we didn't have any available. It's neat reading about Maui, too. As the island I visit most often I'm very familiar with it, "I know where that is!"
BTW, I was surprised the company you went with had you snorkel near Pu'u Pehe... that's something we don't reccommend at all (safety/tides/current) so I'm glad you two are ok!
