Gambling

What are your views on gambling? I have my own but I'm curious as to what you think.
Is it fun?
Have you ever gambled?
What are people's motives to gambling? Just earning money or is there more?
What's the most you've or someone you know has won?
What are the pro's and con's? Thought it would be a fun discussion. Go nuts everybody!

If Jon would answer, he gambles for the entertainment purpose and social atmosphere. That's why he always plays poker or blackjack, where other people are involved. And he usually loses money.

I've gambled, but I always risk so little, I cannot expect a high return. I stick with slots at casinos. I generally come ahead a little bit each time. I've only purchased a few Powerball tickets and never won anything.

My mom won $15.00 on one pull of a penny slot. With Ticket In, Ticket Out, no coins were lost on the floor.

Gambling can be fun in the sense of a group of friends around a poker table, or a date to the track, but as far as casino-type gambling goes... I don't really see the point. If I wanted to waste away that much money, I'd want something to show for it.

I guess gambling is fun for people who have money to burn and enjoy games of chance. My own personal experience with it is $2 on a horse race in Florida where my horse pretty much lost. I also suck at cards. But I enjoyed "Ocean's 11" . . . does that count? ;-)

Like in "Ocean's 11" you must risk a lot for the possibility of a large reward. It's also quite different from watching casino antics to actually participating--although watching all the old people stare at their slot machines while smoking cigarettes for hours can be interesting.

Have you seen Ocean's 12? I couldn't stay awake for it. It was too slow moving for me. Everytime I've had to stop it in the middle or so.

Every saturday my friends and I play Hold 'em, $10 apeice per tournament and we usually play 3 tournaments a night (about 8 people play each time). I have forced myself to only play one tournament a night because $30 is way too precious to me to be throwing away. We play for fun, to rip on eachother and see a good flop. It's all in good humor and tons of fun, we laugh too much :)
