Hoooooly shit.

So, I took another half-day off work due to the cold today. I was up at my apartment for the midday, and decided to go to Mr. Z's for the evening, even though he's in Europe (what can I say? his place is nice ( Read more... )

Oh dear. I'm sorry to hear that.

In other news, it did actually start to bluster and blow almost like before just as I was coming back from picking up dinner, but I grabbed a railing and fought my way back to the building.

/windy city joke.

The storm just passed through here ten minutes ago. Despite being shielded by my building, I thought the tree next to the balcony was going to come through my window. Watch out for the next round coming through.

I'm fine, thanks for your regards. Apparently there are now tornado-style winds in Chicago. Isn't this what I moved north to avoid?

Thanks, global warming.

Truly insane. It took me three hours to make what should have been a 45 minute drive, average.

Did you drive through the burbs? I hear they were worse.

Also, my boss's drive from Streeterville to Andersonville on LSD took 2 hours. Yikes.

I drove stupidly through the suburbs, rather than hang around in the same spot for 20 minutes; due to trees being down and roads being flooded, I made one huge circle and ended up back on 94 two exits away from where I had started, about two hours later. I did get to zip down the highway at 60MPH at that point, though.

It really has been just nasty. Today an entire tree was uprooted just outside my building, falling across the entirety of Cornelia. And when I left work, there was what I think had to be the loudest lightning I've ever seen. I've managed to miss the worst of the wind and rain, largely due to being at work, although it was pouring quite heavily when I left last night.

I really hope tonight isn't as bad.

Also: nicely thematic user icon.

The radar doesn't look as bad, and by this time the last two days it was already messy out. The forecast has been downgraded to "T-showers" from "strong T-storms." There's a severe front moving NNE through Missouri, but I don't think most of it will get as far north as Chicago.

Now let's go to the five-day...
