The low, low highs for this weekend (and the fact Mr. Z is in Utah skiing and thus will not be driving me anywhere) have reminded me of my Winter in Chicago Public Transit Tolerability Index, which I didn't have to use last winter ( Read more... )

is the Tolerability Index too high for you to walk a couple blocks to the liquor store near the Montrose stop and buy some more vodka?

The application of mathematics involved in that analysis is strangely reminiscent of the documentary I watched last night on manned missions to Mars.

Something less deep. Simply the general tone of venturing into the abyss, limited supplies, careful planning, and little prospect of rescue.
