I've avoided talking about politics in my livejournal during this campaign, and I'll go back to avoiding it after this post. But I suggest a proposal should be negotiated between the two campaigns

I think notice both sets of mannerisms more because I listen to it on the radio, rather than watching it, so I can't see either candidate's facial expressions or hand gestures. Possibly also because the actual content of the answers (with a few exceptions on one side or the other) was *so* similar to the last debate and the stump speeches. I think the major take away message was "don't mess with Tom Brokaw" -- by god, both of you will stick to the time limit, or I'll start cutting off microphones! ;-)
Perhaps I should say, as a space filler to collect one's thoughts, I like "my friends." It sounds more intelligent than "uhm" and more personable than "look." Besides that, just think about how much practice it would take to say that out of habit as opposed to an "uhm" or some other single syllable word ;)
It would be interesting to compare the experience between watching the debate on TV and listening to it on the radio. I'd imagine Obama sounded more eloquent, but to me McCain seemed more comfortable moving around the room more and interacting with the audience members.
I really did enjoy the back and forth about the time issue. Both candidates seemed like they wanted to respond more in depth, but they knew they needed to stick to their talking points. In that sense, the time limits really helped them. With only a month to go until the election, neither candidate can afford to accidentally give the other one some devastating sound byte that will be played constantly from now until November.

I actually thought McCain's "my friends" was a nice touch, if a bit over used ;)

Obama definitely overdoes Look and then a pause.
