Time Warner Cable is reducing their unlimited internet service, which costs about $50 a month here to a bandwidth cap of 40gb per month.  As soon as I found out about this yesterday I installed a bandwidth monitor and I'm already up to 761 mb.  I watched one show on hulu and a news clip.  That's just from this computer too, not the Wii and not my ( Read more... )

Thank you very much for posting this! I'm going to install a bandwidth monitor on both computers when I get home from work and see how fast we use it up. We have that Netflix thing to watch movies and shows online, so I'm sure we'd be charged way too much.

I'll also most likely switch services within the next month or two.

Do you happen to know to whom I should address a letter about this?

I called time warner billing today and asked when it was happening, they said fall and I said thanks, that's when I'll be canceling. As soon as I get home, right now I'm in Ohio I'll write some letters to their customer service, the state attorney general, state representatives, city council and maybe internet services this affects - netflix, hulu, itunes, whoever I use to download things. Because they will probably care that they are going to be affected when their customers are charged twice.

This is also a good excuse to contact the porn lobby. I'm sure they'll want to know...

I can't tell you how much Time Warner annoys and frustrates me, but unfortunately in Wilmington we don't have alternatives. I can't believe they're charging people by bandwidth usage now.

wait, actually I can.

what do we do?! I have to use the internet a lot to get work done and I don't want to be charged more for it.

Tell the FCC that you are displeased, tell the state attorney general, tell your state representatives, and tell time warner. It isn't coming to Wilmington in the foreseeable future (This fall is when they plan on testing in in Greensboro), but if enough people get angry that they are even considering doing this they may give up.
