Since I've been getting "Back to School" catalogs for a month and swimwear etc. is 50-75% off in many stores, that's a reasonable assumption. Or you could just make your own ice cream maker with a couple of coffee cans. I'm sure the linked recipe could be added to or altered.
Or, since you don't want to mess with salt and ice, you could try my friend amamama's Chocolate Ice Cream Recipe. I haven't tried it yet, as I prefer a vanilla base to my ice cream (and my kids don't eat chocolate at all), but based on your comments about Swiss Chocolate and Marble Slab, I bet you would like this.
My crazy ex-boyfriend, whose best redeeming quality is that he was a fantastic cook, worked at Williams-Sonoma when he was in school. From what I recall (that store worked its magic on me many, many times), $80 is a highly reasonable price for an ice cream maker.
(What I always really wanted was the really pretty turquoise version of the Kitchen Aid stand mixer. I don't really think you can find it anymore, but it still comes in pretty colors, including pink! And the pink is for breast cancer, so that's good too. :))
