I found an answer to a question that I have been stewing on for a week or two now.  Read this, please:

"Here is another thing that used to puzzle me.  Is it not frightfully unfair that this new life should be confined to people who have heard of Christ and been able to believe in Him?  But the truth is God has not told us what His arrangements ( Read more... )

Does not the bible say that the only people that are saved are the ones who accept Jesus Christ as their saviour? Mr. Lewis is contridicting the inerrent Bible.

actually, he's not. that's what caught my attention. Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6). He doesn't say, "except through believing in me." so I think what Lewis is saying is that there could be another way--maybe those who have not heard of Jesus have a chance? I don't know.

The only way the bible makes sense is if you read it like a Calvinist. God has his elect and Jesus died to save his elect. Everyone who is saved was chosen before time began to be part of his elect. God created some people knowing full well that they were going to hell. Bear in mind that this is much different than how the Jews viewed their God, but Christianity never really cared about being honest anyways.

the Bible makes sense to me, and I don't see it that way. God gives us free will to choose our own course, but because He is outside of time, He can already see what we will choose. Yes, some people will go to hell because of the choices they make, but God did not predestine that. He doesn't want that, but He will not take away their choices.
