Some years ago, I approached a Civil War reenactment group about joining. They were enthusiastic until I told them I wanted to be one of the guys, not sit on the sideline in a hooped skirt and fan myself. They told me to get lost, that 'there weren't any women who fought in the Civil War.' I wish I could have produced an article like that to show them back then.

Wow, I wish you could've, too! Yeah, I so applaud the women of the past who didn't take no for an answer. I wish I could meet ladies like Captain Taylor, and Mary Sullivan-a personal hero and the first female homicide detective on the NYPD.
