:D I agree - putting some of those prompts in some of those universes would be very mind-boggling!

But, after sorting through the more possibles, let me I offer you:

91, Horatio Hornblower.

Thank you. It appears to be turning into a short story - ie about 1000 words. Also rather grim and angsty which I know isn't really your thing in particular. Would you like another go?

:D Great, about the short story! and no, I'll stick with it - angsty, I can handle; what I flinch from is revelling in gore and malice.

I've posted it on Fanfiction.net since it grew to 1300+. It turns out Hornblower is only under TV shows, so that's where I've put it. I just hope no-one minds.

Jonathan Marlow regretted his request to his older cousin Geoffrey before five minutes had passed. It was almost as though there was something personal behind Geoff's vigorous tuition. Pride forbade Jon to mention that he had changed his mind. Jon was glad when Geoff announce that he had wasted enough time and that he would go fishing instead.

Well Roger, obviously or possibly Nancy. But why? (This might belong to a longer story too?)

Those two definitely seem the most likely! Why is the question, though.

The ship’s engineer was the only one not to stand anchor watch. Without John, Susan had had to acknowledge that the “younger ones” were no longer quite so young. And, after all, with seven of them standing watch, everyone had at least half their nights with uninterrupted. Dick was therefore surprised when Roger’s tousled head, rather than Nancy’s red cap appeared up the companion way ( ... )

88, Harry Potter or 99, Swallows and Amazons

(EstellaB--but I made an account here under a different name, since that one was taken. Is it okay for me to suggest one of the prompts, even though I'm new here? :-) )
