More musings on Swallows and Amazons

I played around with creating a second generation of Swallows and Amazons characters, although now I have thought about it a bit more, actually writing their adventures (at any length anyway) would be a bit of an imposition on any fanfiction reader. I also suspect that when the second generation look back on their childhood adventures, they will ( Read more... )

:) Interesting! So Julia's born late '46, and Robert in 49. I can see the fun in the idea of Julia's rebellion taking the form of staid suburban life - not at all sure about a rabbit being assessed as 0.4 of a child, though! (especially as the rabbits were being eaten earlier in the post -- shades of Swift! ;) )

So... what was Jane's rebellion?

(John would be a bit wildly over-heavy to be trying to lay down the law to Julia re: mini-skirts, wouldn't he? She'd be well over seventeen by the time they came in.)

Pretty much. Julia is born in June/ July 1946. (Her birth is in Pieces" but I'm feeling too lazy to go and see what I wrote.) and Robert is born in October 1949.

The rabbit comment was derived from a childhood discussion - we'd heard the phrase, knew about decimal fractions and decided a small dog or large cat about counted. I really can't remember why, or indeed which combination of friends were involved in the combination. Also from another event in "Pieces."

I'm not sure quite what Jane's rebellion was myself, except that it would be out of conviction, not the desire to show off. Fergus had made one suggestion I rather like.

I'm not sure that John actually attempts to ban Julia from wearing mini-skirts, but fathers do have a way of making it quite clear that they don't approve. (Even if it's just by pointed lack of approval). He might say something about it, but Nancy wouldn't let him actually ban her from wearing them.

"has made one suggestion"

Very late comment, I know...

Great fun and detail of them all! It is very interesting to see their characters and it would be very interesting to see what form Jane's rebellion takes!
