Character Name: Captain Jack Aubrey

Series: Master and Commander (movie)

Timeline: end of the film

Background: Here and here! (...also, this video.)

Spoken / written languages: English and French. But he's very, very bad at French, so it hardly counts. For example, he's said "Autre pays, autre merde" (other countries, other shits) instead of "Autre pays, autre moeurs" (other countries, other customs).

Abilities: Jack is an utter genius when on the sea. He knows his way around the ocean, having been in the Royal Navy for much of his life, and is a skilled commander. With excellent strategies and a loyal, well-trained crew, he's taken down vessels stronger and faster than the ones he commands. He's also not bad with a sword and a gun. ...Unfortunately, he doesn't have ANY of those things available to him on the Elegante. He does, however, have his violin! For an amateur he's very good.

Items: A telescope, his violin, and the clothes on his back.

Third Person Sample:

There was nothing Jack Aubrey loved more than the ocean.

He was loath to admit it, but even his wife, Sophie, could only ever be second: the sea had stolen his heart away years before he had even known she existed. She was dear to him, yes, but how could he see her more often when that required, well, being away from the sea? And so Captain Aubrey stood on the deck of the Surprise at dawn, taller and older and stouter than he had ever been, but with eyes still twinkling as boyishly as the day he first became a midshipman. The ocean breeze, skirting past his cheeks, energized him; every drop of saltwater spray seemed to washed away one of the many wrinkles he'd managed to acquire over thirty-odd years.

But he was an officer, not a man sight-seeing.

A wave rocked the ship, then, and it felt as if the entire ship push back, waking in a torrent of bells, shouts, and thudding footfalls--it was then that Jack got to work, calling orders and making his rounds about the ship with a grin on his face.

"Ca--Captain! Sir?!" a young voice cried, frantic.

Jack, who had been conversing with the ship's surgeon (a dear friend), turned. "Yes, Mr. Babbington?" But he didn't much need to hear the answer, for it was looming on the horizon... he pulled out his telescope and put it to his eye to further study this new threat.

"Stephen," he said simply, eyes still on the enemy. "I believe it's time for you to return below deck. We may need your assistance presently, and it would be most inconvenient if you were not at your proper station..."

"Jack?"

"Yes, joy?"

"We will still be able to play a bit of Locatelli this morning, correct?"

Jack laughed. "Dr. Maturin, what do you take me for? This little bout will be as easy as kiss my hand. We will have our Locatelli before long. Now, then..." Jack put his telescope away as Stephen disappeared.

"Beat to quarters!"

First Person Sample:

[For a brief moment, there is a shot of...a nose. The camera is shaky, as if the person using it has NO CLUE what they're doing.

Because he really doesn't.]

--at in the name of--

[The video disappears in an instant, but it returns again as quickly as it had gone, now showing a close-up of Jack's face. He's squinting and furrowing his eyebrows, mashing buttons and yelling at the comm in the hopes of getting this blasted contraption to work.]

Hello? Hello?! Where on earth am I? Who has brought me here? Where is the Surprise: the doctor, my crew? I w-- [a view of his ear as he turns to his belt.] --my weapons!

...is this some sort of plot? [scowls] I know damned well that I'll have none of this...

[Jack drops the comm onto the ground and stomps out the door of his room.]

Come water or high hell, I will get directly to the bottom of this situation!

Preferred Quarters:
Preferably somewhere with an ocean view, but anything is fine!
