Ask not what you can do for your country. Ask what's for lunch.[1]

So someone[2] came up with the ... interesting idea of eating four lunches in four days. Not really all that radical, I was probably going to manage that somehow, but we[3] had lunch in nice places each day for the bank holiday weekend. I may never eat again. After dinner.

Much food here )

That sounds lovely. I believe the only establishment I have not visited on that list is Gee's, which of course being opposite my Department was the one I never got around to.

T: Chicken liver and bacon salad.

Ewww! Up to that point I was solidly behind all T's food choices, but that sounds revolting. :-(

Oh, but that was one of the nicest courses of the lot. Way nicer than the pancake with cheese sauce, which (and I would not have believed this possible) had too much cheese sauce, which contained too much mustard.

*Some* mustard in cheese sauce is right and proper. This mustard, sadly, overwhelmed the cheese. And the peas, leeks and haddock :-(

Still struggling with the idea that Magdalen Arms was fully booked when I tried to go. If you're out to Kingston Bagpuize it's worth looking a little further. Loads of excellent food pubs out there. Or there were anyway.

Wow. I'd forgotten that Oxford had so many nice places to eat (although I guess it's hardly surprising). And so many nice desserts (that M is a strange one).

What's Damson G&T like?
