It's a common question. But dreams are rarely ever as faithful to reality as Mayfield is, in the sense of full consciousness, at least in my experience. It would be impossible, based on physical considerations of information content. The mind tends to 'fill in blanks', both in real life and in dreams, of those things to which it isn't actively paying attention. However, in dreams, this tends to manifest in the environment itself not existing until attention is paid to it. It is a possibility, of course--but not a very likely one.

And of course, you'll find out sooner or later, depending on if you wake up.

Quite so. The trick to realizing things are a dream are noticing little things that are out of place, as well as big things; and while it's true there are those here who have abilities that are entirely out of place in the 'real' world-- it is also true that there is a certain level of consistency that a dream usually does not have.

The current belief is that this is a virtual reality simulator, instead.

Wait, do you mean something like a Cosmosphere, then? Except... how would anyone outside of Ar Ciel know about something like that?

In fact, I have no idea about what you mean; but it is possible that it's similar to something in your world.
