LJ laid off some of their staff, and did so in their usual badly communicated fashion. Of course that's always a warning sign, and even without that, any web service can bite the dust, and these days even more than usually.

But that said, no, it's not likely that LJ will go away anytime soon.

Anyway, you totally should back up your journal to your computer or mirror it to other journaling sites anyway, because even if LJ is here to stay, that doesn't mean they wouldn't take away your journal for some stupid reason or misunderstanding or whatever.

I don't know all the journaling clones out there, but Insanejournal or Journalfen (if you're over 18) are good places for setting up a mirror journal.

I hope that helped a little bit. Can't help you with the 'how' of mirroring journals, because I never did that myself.

Well, I was suspicious because I had a friend who worked for lj and she hinted that things weren't going so hot.

Thanks for your reassurance. It's a good idea for me to back up my journal, so I think I'll try. But the steps seemed a bit complex, but I'll see how it goes.

I've heard of both those journals, but I didn't realize you had to be 18. I think I'll look into them, because I'm of age.
