WHY. is it SO HARD. to find an in-class TEFL/TESOL certificate course in New Zealand? I can't learn crap online, I need to be in a classroom with an instructor and others learning the same thing. Yet all that seems to be available in NZ are online courses and training weekends. Nothing that offers a tangible classroom and a paper certificate at ( Read more... )

I'm such a dud. I could have had a certificate by now if I had applied for the program when I first started taking grad courses :-\

Hindsight, yo. I remember I had the idea of getting the certificate before we graduated, but for some reason couldn't/didn't and now look.

I'm thinking the city of Moscow. Based on what I've read about and on Russia, my Russophilia probably won't mean jacksquat in the face of post-Soviet denigration.

But there's only one way to find out, right? By diving right in headfirst.

Hm. Well, I really hope I don't offend anyone here on this, but I had four friends from Russia.

Two were from Siberia, one was from St. Petersburg, and the third was from Moscow. I can tell you, that there was a significant difference in the friendliness/attitude between the girl from Moscow and the others that weren't. The Siberians really did not like her at all, and the girl from St. Petersburg never, ever talked to her. One of the Siberian girls told me that she's typical of a person that is from Moscow, and that many people get the wrong impression of Russians because of them. I know that, though I wouldn't mind going to Moscow, it really isn't in top list compared to St. Petersburg, or even visiting my friends who are a day's train away from Moskva.

Again, this is just from what I observed, but I understand your Russophilia and the city of Moskva

That's pretty much what I was thinking, actually. The stuff I've read about Russia tend to focus on Muscovites and Life After Stalin type thing. They paint a pretty bleak picture of dreary days and drug-filled nights. Everyone is trying to act like they're rich enough to afford a chateau on the French Riviera and have created the most elitist crowd on earth. This is the place that invented face-control after all.

I also have two friends from St P and the first thing they said to me was "Forget Moscow, come to the real Russia." So maybe I'll do less than a week in Moscow just to see it and get a feel for it, but spend more time in the prettier city.
