The Edinburgh Tattoo is really quite awesome except when I was there about seven or eight years ago I had food poisoning and I had to throw up in a public toilet that looked like Trainspotting.
Also, I'd like to live in Edinburgh for a while. I feel like I hardly know it.
The first place I lived when I arrived in Edinburgh as a student was Mylne's Court, a halls of residence right on top of the mound, just steps away from the Church of Scotland Assembly Halls. My first room was on the top floor, facing outward over Prince's St. gardens, and I could see all the way out to the Firth of Forth. A pretty extraordinary introduction to the city.
It really is. You think you'd get confused which direction to go, but it's all up and down hils and there are views up to hills in every direction, it's a pretty amazing place to live.
The main two things I remember about it are 1) Reading the same maths paper for HOURS on end for my vacation scolarship and 2) Cooking and eating some kind of chicken dish, then immediately throwing it up due to having been drinking all day.

Now I've moved from the studenty south east corner to the villegy north west corner of the city centre, it's like a totally different place.
