Day One of the Rest of my Life, and other stories.

My OCD, let me show you it, oh, and my neighbour's, too...

You know how you're usually kinda nerve-ridden the night before you start a new job? I am, at any rate, a very severe example of the species in this respect. All day yesterday, I was preparing, which included cleaning the hell out of my house, seeing I'd be full-time at work for the first time in quite a while, washing and ironing all the potential work clothes, turning out my dresser and wardrobe and cleaning everything.

It wasn't just pure OCD; while not working, I'm generally a night owl of the late, late shift, with bedtimes approaching 2 or 3am more often than not, and in order to get across town for my early start, I needed to be up at half past five in the morning. So I scrubbed and organized and did everything possible to prepare, tired myself out, and went to bed at nine pm.

My neighbour started vacuuming at 9:30pm, and continued until after 11.

It's night. In suburbia. Little traffic noise, little interruption to the peace in general, and therefore no white noise to mask the horrendous high-pitched suction whine that seemed everywhere on a very still and humid night. I think I finally got to sleep around midnight, then woke up at 2am for no apparent reason. Fell back asleep sometime just after three, and got up at half five. Add three hours on the train and a nine hour day, and tonight I am absolutely wasted.

If Mrs Next Door vacuums again after 8pm, I think I may be tempted to violence.

Big Damn Bank, day one of training

Work is a revelation. All the execs and team leaders came down to meet my training group; we've been shown everything, feted everywhere, handed a big bag of bank goodies and desk items and a bag of lollies when we came in. I know I'm on a diet, but I was VERY grateful for the small dose of chocolate about 3pm when my energy levels took a dive. I was near to microsleeping at the computer.

Due to a special sponsorship event tomorrow, I get to wear jeans! Yay. Red shirts a requirement, but while every Friday is casual dress, I love jeans. I have a lovely new pair and I really shouldn't be wearing them to work regularly (especially not in the first week), I'm tempted all the same.

In any case, I'm pleased with what I've been introduced to so far. I was a little disconcerted that the other guys at entry-level banking aren't exactly busy, because when that's me, I have very low tolerance for boredom, but that's the only negative aspect so far, and it's one I can very easily live with.
