I think it looks a little awkward. The arms for some reason look like they are un balanced. I think id try standing with my shoulders back to solve that.
I think a big helm would help balance it too. Right now it looks like the armor is a bit on the large side for you. A helm might fix that
Maybe its just because I expect female armor to essentially be a metal bra and panties. Why would women need armor anywhere else?
But ya, get a leather helm with some elaborate horns or wings or something
As a side note the boffer is real nice and rock on fro playing a general!
Since I'm a girl and not as broad shouldered I have to wear football pads underneath so the armor slides on the pads. I did have my shoulders back, unfortunately.
Hmmm hadn't through of a helm . . . I'll look around for a good one . . .
Thank you ^_^ And yes that sworded is teh sex. Mmmmm humpable bastard goodness.
Oh and I would discount the non larpers laughter immediately. No matter how cool you look, we all look ridiculous to non larpers (and really the only reason we dont look ridiculous to ourselves is we have been desensitized. Its 2007 and I am wearing chain mail and carrying pvc pipe and foam insulation)
Maybe the reaction is because people really don't associate girls with looking ferocious. It can be too much and too strange for some people to get their heads round, so they have this nervous outburst of laughter, which translates as "does not compute with my cherished stereotypes, I'm freaked and confused!I'd say, lose the white thing you're wearing, (it looks odd and spoils the overall dark armour effect,) and get some more photos posed up. Take lots and lots, leaning into camera, glaring and bearing your teeth, thrusting your body-weigh forward as if about to barge down an opponent and brandishing the weapon as if about the strike the viewer. Some snappy lighting and cropping and post up the best of the batch up here. You're sort of loitering in these poses, we want to see you in attack/defense stance. (Try some camera angles with the photographer "looking up" at you, it'll make you look more powerful and imposing if you're looking down at your opponent. Shots from above are for
( ... )
That's kind of what I was hoping. That this is so out of character for me especially that there was a moment of 'does not compute' laughter. But the paranoid side of me though I looked like a jerk.
I was kind of loitering . . . it was in the middle of an event and I'm lucky I got time to take even these. But thank you ten million times for the advice! I'll put the armor on when I'm not busy and not trying to run in 70 directions at once and actually take pictures. The white thing is my holy symbol and is only needed in game. When I take more pics I'll leave it off.
Arf! I love dressing up as you know, but never forget there's a heck of a lot of artifice and photoshop tweaking that goes on before I post up any pictutes.
When you're Larping, you're in motion, so you've no need to worry about posing and lighting, you'll look good because you're moving, animated, enjoying yourself and in a great atmosphere.
Random snaps never capture that, (how many times have you seen a snap of yourself at a party and thought, wha! That's not me!) That's why you have to over compensate for photos by extreme acting, camera angles and a bit of artifice. Think filmic!
And don't forget to take loads of photos. I'm a poor photographer myself, but I get round that by taking masses of shots. I'll pick out one or 2 random gems-by-chance and ditch 100 crap bog-standard photos when I do a shoot.
thanks for the advice luv! All of my larp shots have come out TERRIBLE. And I've been larping for 7 years now. I think I have 2 good ones. But I digress: I'll put your advice to work!
White pouch has to go, a shield maybe? Also the coif makes frames your face making it look more cherubic. A dark doo rag or a black leather circlet will help make your face look a bit more angular. People associate alot of what a character is like with what is on thier head. Your a badass...you dont need a chain coif!
Also, invest in some long sleeved underarmor. Winter/summer its awesome, especially if your in armor. It wicks the sweat away and helps keep you dry/cool/warm.
It isn't a pouch, it's a holy symbol. As soon as I can find a fist/gauntlet pendant I can get rid of it. :/ Until then I need it for spells.
hmmmm No sheild with that armor (can't bend my arms now) but I'll look into the circlet. It's a damn shame though . . . that coif stays at about 15 degrees cooler than my body or the air. It's the only reason I didn't pass out and die last game.
The underarmor was on my to get list. The bare skin bothers me too. >_<
Ren faire? This weekend? Yesss? Pleases? I'm working in the tavern!!!
You look pretty scary to me (in a good and intended sort of way). I'd panic and break. Then again, my best boffer strategy is wearing 2 ply canvas pants and booting it for the nearest pricker bush when danger appears.

LOL ah the old briar rabbit defense ^_~
In this armor my defense is a raised eyebrow. They see me only reacting with that and back down.
