[The handwriting for this particular entry is far neater than what is usually seen in the journals: a strong, tidy hand, though it may look rather unusual to anyone not from Efinea.

He'd almost filtered it before realizing that doing so would be going against what he was working on at the moment, so instead he leaves it open to be seen by all.]To ( Read more... )

totally not emo either, yes his handwriting is odd, actually asking for advice

[As Richard lingers on the porch, he may notice a familiar face appearing behind one of the windows. Lambda's watching him, waiting to see what he'll do.]

[Richard catches sight of that face and gives him a tired smile in greeting, but it's pretty easy to see through it.]

[Lambda stares for a few more seconds, before moving to open the window. It takes him a bit of time, because it's incredibly hard for him to reach the latch and he's still not used to fine motor skills. After a bit of fumbling, though, he manages to swing it open.]

Richard.

[Richard almost reaches out to help, but resists that urge, because he's sure Lambda would rather do things on his own.]

Forgive me for not letting the two of you know that I would be coming over. I hope I'm not interrupting anything.

[...Dammit, she relates to this too much. It makes her uncomfortable. She was almost tempted to response for that, but- But that's too hard to instead she comments on the other thing that caught her attention]

What's with that handwriting?

Is it really that unusual?

Yes, or I wouldn't have commented on it.

I suppose it is somewhat different from most of the handwriting I've seen people use in the journals.

Friends who're good on calling you out on it help.

That would actually be what prompted this musing in the first place.

That's usually what is, really. Though, I've heard writing things down can help. When you do things you know you really shouldn't, that is.

I'm not sure how much that would help once the things have already been done or said, but I suppose it might help serve as a deterrent for the next time.

[It takes Zan'nen awhile to discern what Richard has written, and it ends up leaving Zan'nen somewhat irritated. However, this turns out for the best. Richard's handwriting slows Zan'nen down enough that he actually sits back and thinks for awhile about how best to answer Richard's question. When Zan'nen does sit down and reply, his uses his old handwriting, a slanted script instead of the messy scrawl he'd learned to use. They were talking about honesty here.]

First of all, you're going to have to learn to recognize whenever you're doing this. You're going to have to force yourself to stop, step back, and think about what it is you're you're actually saying and doing, and if it's truly what you're feeling. Perhaps all the time. Since this is honesty we're talking about, the only one that's going to be able to truly tell when you're lying, is you. [...Not the greatest pep talk ever, but at least the advice is sincere.]

[Were Richard aware of that change in handwriting he would undoubtedly be grateful-- ironic, considering the strange style of his own handwriting that was challenging for others to read. But as it is, he reads the message carefully before responding in his own neat script:]

I think the process of learning to tell when I am not being completely honest will be perhaps the most difficult part. I often say things without ever considering whether or not they are my true feelings; you're right, I'm going to need to start thinking before I speak where matters such as that are concerned.

[Honesty wasn't necessary all the time, was it? And, if first impressions were any proper indicator, this Richard seemed to be a decent enough person. In fact, he struck him as being pretty honest with both himself and others, at least in this moment. Why was this even an issue?]

... Do you know why it is you aren't completely honest? You may be able to start from there.

[Decency, courtesy... those were things Richard had never had issues with. That much came to him naturally, as did his gentle disposition. Honesty, however, not so much, not after the things he'd experienced.]

Because I'm afraid of being hurt by doing so.

[Richard is still semi-dozing on the couch-- he'll tilt forward somewhat, enough to startle him slightly awake, then he'll readjust his position on the couch before beginning to doze and repeating the cycle all over again. It's pretty clear he hasn't been doing much better in the sleep department than Naoki has.

On one such jerk awake, he glances blearily around the room, his eyes falling upon Naoki as he makes his way to the kitchen. He opens his mouth the tiniest bit, as if going to say something...

... give him a moment for his brain to finish starting up here.]

Naoki...

[And he's pushing himself to a standing position and stumbling into the kitchen after him, rubbing at his eyes as he does so. He's intending to tell him that there should still be some hot water left in the tea kettle, if he can get his brain to process that.]
