Mmm. Sounds a bit too much of a compromise to me. You have a whole novel about the brown-eyed girl and the pianist dying to be written here, you know. Meanwhile, it's very enjoyable seeing these snapshots of their lives, and all the lives you're encompassing here.

He has his daughter, which he wouldn't have if he'd taken the other road - yes, it's a compromise, but he definitely loves her more than his piano.

But it's wrong. His daughter has her life to live, she can't be his only reason for living. It's dangerous.
