Isn't that bookcase something? ;)

Usually, I'm the kind of reader you are. Got a book, stolen a couple of hours, gobble it down and swallow hard!

But there's this streak, and I really do think it was carved into me as a kid, that finds the right serial at the right time and just falls in love with the pain of waiting and the rush of each new installment. :)

I've been reading The Rifter by Ginn Hale. It's a 10-part serial, and 6 parts are out, but I'm still back on #2 (not that it's not good, I'm just not motivated right now. I'm in kind of a light-and-carefree mood, and it's just *not*.)

It's all Josh Lanyon's fault.

Ooh, yes indeed! I've got a Rifter subscription but I haven't started reading yet (ergo didn't mention in this post). But I've loved her novellas -- the 2 Wicked Gentlemen ones and Feral Machines -- so I'm looking forward to it. Have you read her Lord of the White Hell duology?

I imagine Josh isn't sorry at all. ;)

No, I imagine you're right.

I've read excerpts and bits and pieces and liked what I read, but nothing as a whole except the first couple of installments of The Rifter. I'm enjoying it, it's just...requiring more mental energy than I seem to have right now. Sadly, I have several books on the back burner for just that reason. I've been spending way too much time over at Project Gutenberg downloading those lighthearted novels from the early part of the 1900s because they're just fitting my mood. :D I have a little bit of a girl-crush on Nell Speed's Molly Brown series.

That's the thing about pleasure reading -- the reader and the book have to find each other at the right time and place. I used to feel guilty when I didn't enjoy a book or author I thought I should, and forced myself to finish more than a few books simply because I started them. Now I think of books more as casual lovers -- if the flirting sparks and the coffee date buzzes, great! If not, no drama! ;)

I too enjoyed The Prince's Boy a lot although I discovered it late in the game and got to read a huge chunk of it in one go.

I did do this thing called Free Fiction Friday with another TQ author and posted my epic Balancing Karma that way. it was fun to do and something like doing Nano as I needed to come up with a new chapter every week.

Funny enough that you posted this today as I'm starting to post up another story today (Enchanted Shadows). That'll be an 8 week run (the story is already written) but it'll still be fun to see what people think of it *crosses fingers in the hopes people enjoy it*.

The Prince's Boy was definitely one of the best serials I've read in a few years.

Updating weekly is so fabulous! Whenever I consider doing a serial I can't figure out a way to post more often than monthly and that's like *years* in internet time...

Linkage for your serials, please!

Sounds like I have my catching up to do!! (That makes me happy.) And I have no issues with mpreg when it makes sense from a worldbuilding perspective. :)

Thanks for this -- do you mind if I crosspost to my WP blog? I'm thinking it might be cool to compile all of today's recs into a post others can use to find new serials...

Serial fiction is great. I'm following three stories at the moment: two completed and one a WiP being posted to LJ under lock. I've written about the first two on my LJ, and I'll agree that the hook is the important thing.

Shall have to check out your links, as queer serial fiction is definitely worth investigating.

I'm always on the lookout for new ones, though not having come from fan fiction I learned the hard way not to dive into a WIP, no matter how enticing. :( Maybe I have trust issues. ;)
